What Really Happened?! The Controversial Details Surrounding the Infamous Jill Scott and Jaguar Wright Beef

If you’ve had your eyes and ears to the “e-world” for the past few years, you’re no stranger to songstress Jaguar Wright’s vicious online rants. Here’s what you need to know about the Jill Scott and Jaguar Wright beef.

From doubling down on Diddy’s sinister dealings to accusing rapper Common of sexual assault, Wright has sounded off with a slew of allegations against today’s most famed entertainers. Be it through an interview or a social media post, the 47-year-old hasn’t been afraid to expose her truth.

One of Wright’s most controversial “victims” is her former best friend, fellow singer Jill Scott, who she’s been calling a thief, “wh*re,” and fraud for quite a while now. To this day, her sentiments appear to remain the same. Yikes.

Why Their Heated Feud Has Now Resurfaced

In case you haven’t heard, Scott performed at the annual Roots Picnic (a music festival created by legendary hip-hop group The Roots) earlier this month. The “Golden” icon made headlines for seemingly addressing Wright’s years-long rumors about her in a rap segment during her set.

While it’s not confirmed that Scott’s on-stage rhymes were done as a diss toward Wright, not too long after, Wright spoke on the matter in another infamous sit-down with RealLyfe Street Starz.

When mentioning what she would say to Scott about the so-called subliminal call-out, she expressed, “You a trash-a** wh*re. You and I both know that.” Wright later continued: “Since you want to use me for clout, let me get you a little clarity. I was your friend, b*tch.”

She then went into detail about how she felt Scott was jealous of her throughout their friendship, which she’s been vocal about in previous interviews.

“You studied everything that I did, you studied everything that I am. And I allowed you to borrow my talents and my gifts. [I] never asked for an ounce of credit. [I] just wanted to see you win,” Wright expanded. “After all that f*cking and sucking in Central, all them trips to the godd*mn clinic–you know–you deserve to win at something. ‘Cause you certainly weren’t winning at life.”

Elsewhere in the conversation, Wright re-cited her claim about Scott confiding in her about her then-fertility issues and ultimately getting pregnant by a man Wright used to date, her drummer, Li’l John Roberts. Reportedly, Scott was also engaged to Roberts, with whom she eventually had a son in 2009.

In front of the RealLyfe Street Starz host, Wright furthered regarding Scott, “You got John’s baby. [It’s] a shame you don’t let [your son] spend no time with his daddy. He’s almost grown now; he’ll be able to choose. I don’t know… unless you use your pocketbook to keep him on the string like you do every other man in your life. Never trust a b*tch who leads with her a**hole and her wallet, first! You and I are not the same!”

How the Jill Scott and Jaguar Wright Beef Became So Publicized

Apparently, Scott’s alleged conniving ways have been going on for some time. Wright once stated that she and Scott’s bond ended shortly after the release of Scott’s Beautifully Human album in 2004.

Wright’s career was catapulted in the late ’90s by The Roots, who brought attention to the then-rising star. Scott, on the other hand, was discovered by The Roots member Questlove around that time. According to Wright, though, Scott was friends with her cousin, too, who brought them both to The Roots and wrote the hook for Scott’s “A Long Walk.” So, with each of the ladies being Philadelphia-raised and in the neo-soul genre, their connection was somewhat inevitable.

However, things blew up in the news when Wright took to social media to express her disdain for how Scott, along with a few others, failed to properly acknowledge The Roots rapper Malik B.’s death in 2020.

From there–as far as we know–that’s when Wright decided that she had some bones to pick with Scott and went on a rant about her rumored escapades and shady dealings–in and out of the entertainment business.

“Don’t nobody ask questions why all of a sudden Jill Scott went from a sexy and smart and nice and cool to… ‘All I do is think about sex and sucking d*ck.’ She didn’t become that, she’s always been that,” Wright said. “Y’all want to know about her? Go back to North Philly! Go back and ask somebody from Girls’ High. All the f*cking traffic she had through f*cking Central.”

In that same rant, Wright alleged that Scott co-wrote and was scheduled to sing on The Roots track “You Got Me,” only to learn that she had been booted off by “Bag Lady” phenomenon Erykah Badu when it hit the radio. Because of this, Scott allegedly “hated” Badu and would bad-mouth her to Wright.

Wright indicated that the end of her sisterhood with Scott came when she received phone calls about Scott mimicking her artistry. One of her other turning points was when Scott didn’t show empathy for her son’s demise.

Following the video rant, there was a series of instances in which Wright discussed her feud with Scott. Particularly, in a viral interview with RealLyfe Street Starz from 2020, where she blamed Scott for messing around with all of her friends’ dudes, including hers.

Upon celebrated blogger Storm Monroe also asking her where she and Scott went wrong, she spat, “She’s a disloyal b*tch. She’s a great actress… sometimes. I wish she acted more in her real life. See, she saves all of that good, gushy stuff for y’all! We all know the real her.”

Additional statements Wright has spewed about Scott were things like Scott’s mother allegedly “grooming” her to be promiscuous in her childhood, burning bridges with people in the music industry, and creeping with actor Terrence Howard while married to her first husband, Lyzel Williams.

The 52-year-old has never responded to the “Denials Delusions and Decisions” artist directly. However, she did publicly send “love and respect” to Common, Diddy, Mary J. Blige, and Erykah Badu, who were on Wright’s jab list as well, back in 2020.
