If you’re a fan of ‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ you might want to know more about the show’s creation and inspiration. That’s also true if you’re considering watching it but you haven’t gotten involved yet, or if you’re a fan of the films and trying to decide if you want to watch the TV series on Disney+. No matter where you are in your level of interest or knowledge of the show, its creation was a labor of love for Tim Federle. Here’s what to know about that.

Music Is a Central Theme

Naturally, music is a central theme for this series. However, there’s also a rich and diverse cast of characters who have a lot of other things going on in their lives, as well. That helps to keep the audience interested in everything that’s happening to the students as they work through their musical numbers and productions, because the series doesn’t shy away from important themes such as anxiety, loss, and LGBTQ+ representation.

He Was a Broadway Performer

Tim Federle, the creator of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, brought his Broadway experience to the small screen in an effort to make sure the show had the right look and feel as it progressed. Audiences who enjoy Broadway will be able to tell that there was a deep understanding of it as part of the development of this series, and they can appreciate all that was put into creating it and moving it along through four complete seasons.

Real Teenagers Made Up the Cast

While many series that involve teenage characters actually use older actors in those roles, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series cast teenagers who fit the age group they were portraying. That added a realistic energy and feel to the work and helped with the believable nature of the characters and their struggles. All four seasons are available for anyone who wants to see what the show has to offer or watch their favorite episodes again.

It Ended on a High Note

Many fans wish there would be more episodes, but the series ended on purpose. The goal was to go out at a high point when it was still popular, and also to make sure it wouldn’t have a cliffhanger ending if it was canceled for some reason. The decision to end it after four seasons did both of those things, and gave fans a stronger appreciation for everything that made up the series.
