Dave Blunts has been slowly garnering a lot of attention over the last few months. The 23 year-old cancer, born on July 1st, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and raised in Davenport, Iowa. Not exactly Hip-Hop hotbeds, but he’s still making a name for himself among the rising generation of artists. Here’s your chance to meet Dave Blunts and get familiar with the rapper whose real name is Davion Blessing, as he continues to make his rise.
Who is Dave Blunts
Blunts has been garnering attention for many reasons. Blunts started rapping back in 2018 despite serious health concerns. Even before he picked up a mic he was going viral on the internet from simply posting pics… of himself. He developed a fan base (very surprisingly, many were in Mexico!) from that and when he dropped his first song those fans followed. His infectious rhymes and ironic raps are quite one of a kind. With songs like, “The Cup” and “Hospital Bed,” he’s rapping his life in the face of concerns. His June 2024 album Well Dude Here’s My Thing names his exes and enemies for better or worse.
Still, it wasn’t a sure shot that he would be successful. After 6 years of making music and not reaching a big enough audience, he almost quit. In fact, he deleted all his old music! He told himself he would stop completely, but decided to give it one last push in 2023 and that’s when he took to TikTok. That led to viral success and cosigns from other artists including Lil Yachty.
Not long after Dave Blunts signed a deal with LISTEN TO THE KIDS, a joint venture label with Santa Anna Records based in Los Angeles and founded by Conor Ambrose, a music executive who previously worked at Warner Bros Records and Interscope Records.
Dave Blunts and Snoop Dogg go back and forth
The rapper, who has used an oxygen tank to help him with breathing, while seated on a sofa during performances has drawn the ire of many, including fellow rapper Snoop Dogg. An while some expressed disgust over his very large appearance, others were genuinely concerned about his overall health and wellbeing. Snoop seemed to fall somewhere in the middle with his comments on a posted video where he said, “put down the chicken wings and tata chips nefew and that chair gone break soon get to the end of [the] cup,”” Snoop later apologized for the post.
Still, Blunts called out the OG rapper during a performance at the Juice World Day concert that was held in Chicago. Once again Dave Blunts appeared seated and using an oxygen tank. Pictures and video of the performance went viral as many fans worried for the young rapper’s health. But Blunts took some time while on stage to address the need for the set up and Snoop at the same time. “Chicago, do y’all have a problem with me sitting down on this stage?,” Blunts asked. The crowd responded in support of him and he followed with: “Exactly! So get the f— off my d**k, Snoop Dogg… Snoop, you think you funny? You don’t know what it’s like to fight for your life every damn day!”
Snoop Dogg replied to Dave’s message with a video of his own saying, “that was funny. Go ahead, lil homie… I mean big homie. Do ya thang, ‘cuz, I ain’t f—— with you. Have fun. I apologized to this n***a and he’s still going off on me, ‘cuz. I must be getting old.”
Snoop didn’t stop there, putting a twist on the song “The Cup” by Dave Blunts, replacing the lyric “the cup” with “the blunt,” sharing, ”I’m with you. I can’t put down the blunt and you can’t put down the cup!”
Although all the comments may not be positive, being recognized by many famous rappers and influencers is what Blunts hoped for from the beginning of his music journey. This game has allowed Dave to reach new heights. Regardless of what onlookers may think, Dave continues to show everyone paying attention his true worth!
