Longtime music industry veteran Tish Hyman has found herself going viral… but not for her music. Latisha Tawana “Tish” Hyman, 43, whose originally from The Bronx, moved out to Los Angeles over a decade ago. She’s appeared on songs with Fabolous among many other peers over a long career. On Monday, November 3, while in the locker room at Gold’s Gym in Beverly’s Center, Tish got into it with someone she believed was a man. The Tish Hyman viral confrontation at Golds Gym was recorded by gym goers as Tish revealed that she was being banned from the gym. She later went to instagram to share her side of the story.
This situation feels like a preview to standoffs that can continue to happen at public venues like gyms, if there are not more conversations around protecting women and also protecting those who identify as trans-women or trans-men.
Protecting Women vs Trans Rights
In a video that’s being shared online Tish explains that she was completely naked in the locker room when she turned around and saw what she believed was a man looking back her. According to her, the person looked like a man, was dressed “in boy clothes” appeared to be man, so her first instinct was to protect herself because she felt “weird.”
“How can you say you are a woman, or want to be a woman, but don’t care how women feel?”
Tish, who is a open lesbian, explained in the video that she is not transphobic. “It’s about a feeling,” she explains. “If you’ve never been a little girl whose been touched, you won’t understand that feeling. And you’ve never been a little girl!”
It must STOP NOW. https://t.co/CY7EO7SUE1

Other videos of the backlash show Tish speaking in what appears to the gym lobby, explaining that she is getting kicked out because there are “grown men” in the locker room, and that she was being terminated “for not wanting men in the locker room.”
If we saw boldness like this back in 2020, this insanity would’ve never been allowed to fester like it has.

Tish Hyman Speaks
The Tish Hyman viral confrontation at Gold’s Gym is seemingly dividing the internet as folks weigh the priority of women’s rights versus trans rights. The debate will likely continue until clear policies are put in place in public spaces, however.
In another IG post, Tish mentions that this wasn’t the first confrontation with this trans woman and that she and other members of the gym had previously made written reports about the member being in the women’s locker room.
“Multiple women and I have repeatedly made written reports on this man for coming into our women’s locker room harassing us , and the gym staff has done absolutely nothing!!
He has disrespected me multiple times, and I’ve only been ignored when I quietly reported it. But today I made noise!!
Today as I walked into the locker room he came in behind me and called me a bitch in a deep angry voice. I was TERRIFIED. I RAN OUT INTO THE GYM SCREAMING THERE IS A MAN IN THE REST ROOM!!”
