Deniece Pearson was the voice and soul behind many of Five Star’s biggest hits. As a member of the talented Pearson family, she brought genuine emotion and strength to the group’s sound. Throughout their peak years from 1985 to 1988, Deniece’s vocals elevated hits like “System Addict” and “Rain or Shine,” helping the band rack up four top-20 albums and 15 top-40 singles. Her presence on stage and in the studio was vital to their success, and her talent played a key role in earning Five Star the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1987. Deniece wasn’t just a constituent of the band—she was the heart of their most memorable moments, leaving a lasting mark on British pop music.

Parlé Mag:  First things first, m’deepest and most sincere condolences on the passing of your brother and group-mate, Stedman, in March of last year… 🕊️
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Thank you so much, we are grateful for your love and respect!

Parlé Mag:  On a lighter, brighter note, let’s hop into this single, “We Found Love” — how did this particular track even come to fruition?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️”We Found Love” came about while I was in an 8 month solitude cycle in my life. I had shut off all communications to the world, and decided to finally complete my album Free~Queen~See; all songs from this album were manifested from the heavens and spiritual energies which I tapped into.

Parlé Mag:  How then does “We Found Love” compare to or differ from your previous songs?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️”We Found Love” is a happy, feel good tune released specifically for Valentine’s Day 2026. It has an 80’s / 90’s kinda vibe, spiritual in the ultimate way that we all know love is our universal language.

Parlé Mag:  “We Found Love” comes courtesy of your solo LP, Free~Queen~See — conceptually, what does this title represent both to and for you?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️It’s the ultimate, wishful thinking; I hope this year I am blessed with a Kingdom husband, not one that I choose but one that God has chosen for me! I’m wishing this for everyone waiting for this kind of love. Love is what everyone needs in their lives!

Parlé Mag:  Now as a songwriter, where do you draw inspiration from?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️My inspiration is from connecting with my spiritual guides, doing my shadow work, talking to God and the Angel to guide and direct me in everything I do! How can we lose when we’re working with the energy / spirit that runs everything? 👊⚜️x

Parlé Mag:  Tell me about your musical beginnings. When did this journey start for you?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️I grew up in a musical household. My brothers and sisters and I were exposed to a huge array of musical artists; from Elvis Presley to Motown – Smokey Robinson – being one of my ultimate favorites, to the J5, Tina Charles, Randy Crawford, Lionel Richie, Patti Austin, The Osmond’s and more.

My father played guitar on the Wilson Pickett ‘Midnight Hour Tour’; also for Jimmy Cliff, Desmond Decker and many more 60’s superstars. He then put us all together in a group, and had me take lead vocals. Resulting in our success; quadruple platinum record sales, and 6 UK top ten hits, plus worldwide success.

Deniece Pearson parle magParlé Mag:  Growing up in London, England, who were some of your biggest influences?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Smokey Robinson was my ultimate favorite, along with Crystal Gayle, Randy Crawford, Patti Austin, Lionel Richie. Not many UK artists.

Parlé Mag:  What do you hope people take away from your music?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Positivity, love, kindness, manifestations, empathy, respect and knowing that we are all one! God, the angels and our spirit guides are real, and they will help us all acquire “anything” good that we want in our lives!!

Parlé Mag:  Dream collaboration — who would it be?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Ooh, there are many…Avril Lavigne…My Chemical Romance, India.Arie (Simpson), Heart, to name a few!

Parlé Mag:  How do you feel about the current state of R&B?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️We need more songs like “We Found Love” with its bass-line and lyrics to bring back those Alexander O’Neal, Freddie Jackson, Bobby Brown, Evelyn (“Champagne”) King vibes!

Parlé Mag:  What’s the key to your longevity?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️The love of music, Sweetheart! It’s something I was born with that will always bring me joy in my life as long as I am doing it!

Parlé Mag:  Beyond music, what else, if anything, do you want to do?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Interior design, my own clothing and perfume brand, my own champagne brand, helping and teaching calmness and peaceful techniques and helping people without homes and helping to financially – wherever I can – help fulfill peoples’ dreams and aspirations.

Parlé Mag:  Biggest career moments thus far?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Becoming a Grammy nominee, becoming the youngest female to own and drive a Lamborghini Countach in The Guinness Book of (World) Records, winning the 1987 BRITs Award, having 2 sold out tours working with my whole family, meeting Princess Margaret and Queen Elizabeth, becoming a mother, changing so many lives for the better, and selling out the Sydney Opera House. 🤩 🙏x

Parlé Mag:  What’s an average day like for you?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Posting on social media, designing through many apps, keeping my legacy alive, working out and watching movies in bed until I have a show. ⚜️🤩x

Parlé Mag:  Favorite and least favorite parts of this work?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Writing, designing, producing, vocals, creating, bringing my product to our fans and meeting our fans are my favorites… least favorite, late late stage times that run well over designated time!

Parlé Mag:  What advice would you give to someone following in your footsteps?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Always be, and never compromise on being your beautiful authentic self!

Parlé Mag:  Five to ten years from now, where do you see yourself?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Wealthy, prosperous, blessed, married with lots of grandchildren and doing shows when I feel like it! 🤩🙏x

Deniece Pearson Free Queen See album cover

Parlé Mag:  What’s next for you, Deniece?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Releasing more songs from my brand new album, Free~Queen~See, specifically “Deliverance” in support of the phenomenal work and movement of Ibrahim Traoré in Burkina Faso! He is anointed ~ a chosen one!

Parlé Mag:  “All Fall Down,” “Let Me Be The One,” “Love Take Over,” “Can’t Wait Another Minute,” “If I Say Yes” and “Are You Man Enough” are all bonafide classics — how did these particular selections come about? who came up with their concepts? and, please describe for me the overall studio vibe(s) on that / those fateful day(s)?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Wow, phenomenal times, awesome songs and different eras of Five Star. “All Fall Down” and “Let Me Be The One” were our R&B releases; our first successful releases. In studio with Loose Ends and producer Nick Martinelli. Then we crossed over, which black artists used to do in the 80’s.

“Love Take Over,” “Can’t Wait…,” Michael Jay, producer and songwriter of “If I Say Yes” was in awe of my dad / manager, Buster Pearson. He gave Michael his first production on this track, also on “The Slightest Touch.”

That’s what I loved about my dad, he had that belief and magic! He always trusted his intuition, regardless of whether Michael Jay had produced before or not daddy took that chance on him and gave him the job. Till this day, Michael remains very grateful to my dad. 🙏 x

We had most of the (songs) from various writers’ demos sent to us on cassettes through the post, and daddy always played them (for) me and asked me what I thought being the lead singer.

“All Fall Down” demo was sung by a guy, and for the life of me I couldn’t see what dad heard in this song until I heard the chorus.

The guy’s voice was sooo boring to me as a teenager! This song puts me in the mind of a derelict house that had potential, but you just had to listen hard enough to find it! One of my favorites now to this day!

Parlé Mag:  Lastly, what’s up with Lorraine, Doris, and Delroy [Five Star]?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Lorraine retired, mum / wife, and lives with her daughter and husband in Cutter. Del lives in L.A. with his 3 children, builds Bespoke Recording studios. Doris lives in London, does some voiceover, songwriting and is learning how to play the guitar. 🤩⚜️x

Parlé Mag:  Any parting words for our readers?
Deniece Pearson:  ⚜️Sending all our love to all of our fans that’s given us their love and support throughout our musical career over these decades! We love you all forever, stay positive and always remember “God is real”; anything you want in life pursue it, ask and you shall receive! Stay blessed! Love you all x x⚜️

Many Thanks
Miss Pearson ⚜️
