Jai’Len Josey doesn’t ease you into Serial Romantic—she pulls you in by the Heart & Strings and lets everything play out exactly how it’s supposed to. It starts intimate, almost controlled, then quickly slips into something more honest—where a Housewife daydream can turn into a late-night Freak confession without warning. Somewhere in between, you catch yourself becoming the New Girl in a story that feels a little too familiar, telling yourself this is just a phase, just a moment, just This Time Around.
Then reality taps in.
Not harsh, not dramatic—just clear. That quiet Love Ain’t Shit realization that doesn’t come from anger, it comes from experience. The kind that makes you call a silent Truce with yourself, even if you know you might break it the second someone says “Won’t You” and means it just enough to pull you back in.
That’s where Jai’Len lives on this record—the in-between. Not fully detached, not completely lost either. Just aware. Floating through moments where you feel a little Out Of My Body, watching your own patterns repeat in real time, knowing how it ends but still choosing to see it through. Because sometimes you don’t want the lesson—you want the feeling.
By the time you land on Serial Romantic, it doesn’t feel like a label—it feels like acceptance. Like understanding that you might Lose Somebody, maybe even yourself for a second, but still choosing to believe in it anyway.
And that’s the part she doesn’t dress up.
That even after everything—after the cycles, the clarity, the self-checks—you still Believe (Selfish).
Not because it’s smart. Not because it’s safe.
Because it’s you.
Parlé Mag: Serial Romantic feels like a defining arrival moment. What personal growth or turning point made this album possible?
Jai’Len Josey: Personal belief was my turning point. I started finding excitement in my shortcomings in relationships and turned them into the roadmap for this album.
Parlé Mag: What does being a “serial romantic” mean to you — personally, emotionally, and artistically?
Jai’Len Josey: Being a serial romantic means I’m not afraid to believe in love again. It resonates with me in every aspect of my life. Relationships or not, I’ll try over and over because I know real love is possible.
Parlé Mag: The album balances bold confidence with deep vulnerability. How did you find that emotional balance in your songwriting?
Jai’Len Josey: I think the album honestly shows how unbalanced and chaotic my songwriting can be. The emotional balance comes when the lyrics are written, not necessarily when I’m living them in real time. And that’s a beautiful place to create from.
Parlé Mag: What emotional truth or personal story were you most fearless about revealing on this project?
Jai’Len Josey: The most fearless truth I shared is that love consistently beat me down until I learned to give that same love back to myself.
Parlé Mag: How did working with Tricky Stewart shape the sound, vision, and direction of the album?
Jai’Len Josey: Working with Tricky is like watching a true craftsman at work. As a writer and producer, I felt like a student studying the details. He sharpened my instincts and elevated the vision.
Parlé Mag: Your music blends R&B, pop, and house influences. What inspired you to push beyond traditional genre boundaries?
Jai’Len Josey: My desire to never be boxed in and my love for music as a whole. To truly love music is to appreciate every genre. I don’t believe in limits when it comes to sound.
Parlé Mag: From Broadway stages like The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage! to recording artist, how has your performance background shaped your voice and storytelling?
Jai’Len Josey: Broadway taught me that there’s always a story to tell, and people are always looking to see themselves in one. They want solace in knowing someone else is fighting similar battles. And if there’s light at the end of the story, maybe there’s light at the end of theirs too.
Parlé Mag: Looking back at your early work, including Illustrations and Southern Delicacy, how has your artistic identity evolved leading into this album?
Jai’Len Josey: I evolved from a bashful young girl, chubby and unsure of her beauty, hiding behind her talent, into a young woman obsessed with great music. When my grandfather passed, everything clicked. I can’t be shy if I’m meant to be a star. Now I feel a responsibility to protect that younger version of Jai’Len and make her proud.
Parlé Mag: As an artist raised in Atlanta, how has your hometown influenced your sound and creative perspective?
Jai’Len Josey: I went to Tri-Cities High School in the heart of Atlanta, home to one of the greatest groups in history, OutKast, and so many timeless acts. I had no choice but to be unapologetically Southern. No matter the genre I explore, that flavor always finds its way in.
Parlé Mag: How has your relationship with love, identity, and self-discovery evolved through creating Serial Romantic?
Jai’Len Josey: My relationship with love is complicated, but I’ve gained enough experience to understand the do’s and don’ts. And it’s still evolving, especially as this project rolls out.
Parlé Mag: In an industry driven by trends, how do you protect your authenticity and creative voice?
Jai’Len Josey: I protect my authenticity by making music that heals me. I also keep honest people around me—friends who tell the truth and keep their ears to the streets. Music should reflect the times. It’s hard to avoid trends completely, but it should always stand for something bigger.
Parlé Mag: What do you hope listeners feel or discover about themselves after experiencing this album from start to finish?
Jai’Len Josey: I hope they hear my yearning. And I hope they’re bold enough to love again.
Parlé Mag: With this project marking a new chapter, what legacy do you hope Serial Romantic leaves in modern R&B and culture?
Jai’Len Josey: I hope it reminds people that softness is strength, and that romance isn’t weakness. It’s rebellion.
