Did y’all know that Kelly Rowland EDM House music era came before Beyoncé’s ‘Break My Soul’ single? I honestly did not know until Kelly Rowland started trending on Twitter after Beyonce released, ‘Break My Soul’ off her new album, Renaissance.
I confess that I can be in my own stubborn musical bubble and don’t listen to much EDM music. However, I decided to listen to Kelly Rowland’s EDM House music to see what the hype is all about – and I’m glad I did. Apparently, Kelly Rowland had a few EDM House songs with David Guetta, including Commander and Choose feat. Neyo. She also did an EDM House/Disco song with Amorphous entitled, Finally (Cannot Hide It) feat. CeCe Peniston.
If you need a refresher, David Guetta made the song Titanium feat. Sia, which was one of the songs covered in the movie, Pitch Perfect. Complex did an article on the different EDM genres if you want to check that out as well.
Fan Reactions
Fans made it clear that while they enjoyed Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’, they wanted to acknowledge Kelly Rowland’s EDM House music era that came prior to the new single.
I know we’re all excited about Beyoncé tonight, but let’s us not forget Kelly Rowland edm/house era. She really could’ve had a different trajectory had she stayed with this sound. pic.twitter.com/kltMT6YOjA

As a lifelong Rowland Stone, I must also call attention to fellow Child of Destiny Kelly Rowland’s own fabulous, early ‘90s club love letter, which dropped around last year’s Pride. (Michelle, you’re up next.) pic.twitter.com/gvwyEFEkuz

And not to do this, but this is the type of music Kelly Rowland has been doing for years but has been paid dust in the states, but let me hush. #BreakMySoul pic.twitter.com/FdyXYeMmCZ

I hope this urges Kelly Rowland to get back in her dance bag because her David Guetta era was truly a time

I really ought to cuss Kelly Rowland out for letting Beyoncé beat her and making a dance album before she did.

Other Artists Making EDM/House Music Before Beyoncé
It’s also important to note that other artists were on the EDM/House disco wave before Beyonce’s ‘Break My Soul’ such as Azealia Banks and Dawn Richard. Ne-Yo even had an EDM Dance era. Drake also released an EDM House-inspired album, Honestly, Nevermind, on Friday (June 17th).
If You Haven’t Already…
Since EDM/House music is having a musical Renaissance (pun intended), check out the following if you haven’t already:
