You probably already know that what you wear says a lot about you. Whether you realize it or not, when you look at someone, you’re likely making at least a few assumptions about them based entirely on their outfit of choice.

But did you know what you wear affects how you feel, too?

If you want the world to see you for who you are — and simultaneously feel great in what you’re wearing — you need to learn to dress to your personality. Keep reading to learn why it’s so important and how to go about it.

Start By Figuring Out Your Style Personality

Before you can start choosing the right pieces for your personalized wardrobe, you need to decide what style best suits your personality. This is about more than knowing that you prefer how you look in dark colors or being a fan of stripes. Instead, your style personality encompasses the looks that you feel confident in, that reflect your personality and that help you show the world who you are.

For instance, if you’re a laid-back person with a care-free vibe, wearing structured, preppy outfits will not only be uncomfortable but will also portray your personality for something it’s not. There is no shortage of wardrobe personalities from which to choose. Whether you’re chic and professional, feminine and stylish, quirky and eccentric, or any number of other personalities, choose a style that best aligns with how you feel about yourself.

Don’t Forget Your Intimate Attire

It isn’t just your outfits that can be customized to match your unique style; in fact, lingerie is just as customizable. Whether you like a classic look or a tried-and-true color like black or deep red, you can fully customize your undergarments and sexy lingerie to suit your personality. And just like customizing your daily outfits, you’ll enjoy a boost of confidence as a result.

Choose Items You Feel Good In

The most important fashion rule to follow when you’re learning how to dress to your personality is to choose items that make you feel good in your own skin.

While there’s nothing wrong with trying the latest trends, don’t settle for fashions that are uncomfortable, either how they fit or how they make you feel. Each of your clothing choices should feel good to wear and leave you feeling confident in them.

Of course, if you want to find fashions you feel good in and that look good on you, you first need to break out of your comfort zone, for instance, by trying out linen dresses that you don’t usually wear. If you’ve always stuck to the same colors and fits, you could be missing out on tons of styles that flatter and fit your personality. While you’re trying to find your perfect style personality, try on plenty of new things, including items you would’ve never picked off the racks. You might be surprised to find some new favorites along the way.

Additionally, accessorizing is essential to enhance your overall look. For instance, you can drape one of your favorite cashmere shawls over your shoulders like a traditional shawl, wrap it around your neck as a scarf, or even belt it for a cinched look.

Belts are another popular accessory to dress to your personality. The key is to select belts that align with your unique character. Opt for neutral-colored leather belts with understated buckles if you have a classic and timeless personality. Those with bold and expressive personalities can explore statement belts with eye-catching designs or vibrant colors. Minimalists will find sleek, unadorned belts with clean lines and subtle embellishments in tune with modern sensibilities.

On the other hand, dressing your personality with shoes is about having the confidence to experiment, mix and match, and, most importantly, have fun while showcasing your unique fashion identity. Pay attention to shoe details, heel height, comfort, color coordination, and the balance between functionality and style.

Selecting jewelry to express your personality is a deeply personal and creative process. For classic personalities, elegant pieces like pearl-pendant gold necklaces or diamond studs work wonderfully, while those who are bold and expressive can make a statement with chunky necklaces and oversized earrings. Minimalists may prefer clean, understated designs such as thin bangles or delicate pendants, while the bohemian and free-spirited can explore jewelry inspired by nature and culture.

Start Dressing for Your Personality

If you’re someone who already buys clothes based on what you like and not what’s fashionable, your closet might already be ready for you to start dressing to your personality. If not, it’s time for some shopping! First, find your perfect style personality. Then, keep these tips in mind to help you fill your wardrobe with items you’ll not only look good in but also feel great wearing.
