If you’re one to drive to the flower shop to fill your vases with new blooms, why not try gardening your own instead? You could even try planting new seeds just for the fun of it or engaging in it because you’re looking for new colors to feast your eyes on.

With unlimited reasons to plant your flowers, it will prove to be a task worth taking on. Not only will it be a mood enhancer and energizer, but it will also increase the visual appeal of your home. Thus, read down below and learn about the seven flowers you can take on:

Roses

Nothing comes close when it comes to elegant roses. Its soft petals that come with various shapes and colors remain a classic when it comes to garden specials, some growing with 100 petals and others boasting 150.

To add these to your garden, you first need to test your soil. For this, you will need loamy and well-draining soil with an acidity of 6.0 to 6.5. You would also need to remove any rocks, weeds, or debris to ensure optimum growth. You would also need to secure an area of full sun for the roses, where it’s near a fence to safeguard them from the strong wind.

By maintaining these conditions, you ensure that your roses bloom beautifully. Click Here to get a detailed look at how to grow your roses. Here, we present a guide on planting from seed, transplant, or bare root.

Marigolds

The bright marigold will be a great addition to your garden. As it is a no-fuss plant, you could plant it with your children and see it bloom in just eight weeks if you give it the best growing conditions. You don’t have to worry about the soil for this ray of sunshine, but they do best in fertile and well-draining ones.

You could even add fertilizer to the ground, although they don’t necessarily require food. Lastly, marigolds will need watering at their bases – but be careful not to overwater them as moisture does not bode well with these plants.

Pansies

When it comes to a mixture of bold colors, pansies will not disappoint. This large-flowered plant will bloom in shades of yellow, orange, violet, red, white, and even near-black hues, and it will sit atop branches of light green.

It’s best to plant pansies when the weather is cooler, so spring or fall is ideal. Additionally, they prefer rich and well-drained ground that is fixed with organic food. The partial sun is preferred, especially in Zone 7, as the afternoon sun may discourage flower production.

Impatiens

Although impatiens love shady places, they will bloom into bright and bold yellow, purple, pink, or violet hues. Once it matures, impatiens will grow from one to three feet, boasting colors from spring until the summertime.

You will need well-draining soil filled with nutrients and minerals for the impatiens, resulting in 6.0 to 6.5 acidity. Once established, two inches of water every week will be essential for this plant to thrive. You could even fix them in hanging pots or window boxes, but they will need watering daily.

Begonias

If you’re looking for a warm color combo in your garden, begonias will be best for you! Being one foot tall and its flowers growing up to four inches wide, it will envelop your garden bed with its lush petals.

For this classic shade-loving plant, you will need light and fertile soil. Likewise, you will need to separate your begonias one foot apart to give them more space to breathe. They will need moist soil, so remember to water your plant when the soil has dried out.

Snapdragons

With its gaping mouth and pastel colors, snapdragons will bloom in your garden – even with its bright spikes. You could even choose varieties that are double-colored to give your garden a difference.

To grow snapdragons, you need to get rid of weeds. It would help if you also had mulch to maintain the soil’s moisture and one inch of watering every week. Lastly, it would help to protect these from winds or direct sunlight when it’s not yet established.

Cosmos

Cosmos will elegantly tie your garden together with its pastel flowers fixed into long and green stems. These will attract bees and butterflies to your garden, especially during the summer when the buds will be in full bloom.

To grow cosmos, you will need sandy or slightly alkaline loamy soil. Likewise, it would help if you also watered it only when the soil dries as cosmos can tolerate heat pretty well. Lastly, it will take you seven weeks to see its first bloom if you’re growing from seeds.

Takeaway

Novice and professional gardeners alike can enjoy flower gardening – significantly since it improves your well-being and increases your home’s appeal. It could also aid in controlling soil erosion and attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Likewise, with the guide presented, may you grow your own and harvest your flower power!
