Quincy Jones Interview w/ GQ Reveals Details About Life & 70+ Years In Music Business
Quincy Jones has been working in the entertainment industry for 7 decades and he still feels like he is just starting. The Grammy award winning record producer sat down in a new interview with GQ Magazine where he shared details about his life in the music business, his childhood and his views on the current state of music. The interview discussed everything from Frank Sinatra trying to hook him up with Marilyn Monroe to him not liking Taylor Swift’s music.

Jones claims he has 22 girlfriends all across the globe and they all know each other!
When asked about if he was dating 22 different women, Jones agreed saying, “Hell yeah. Everywhere,” he said. “Cape Town. Cairo. Stockholm – she’s coming in next week. Brazil – Belo Horizonte, São Paulo, and Rio. Shanghai – got a great girl over there from Shanghai, man. Cairo, whew.”
The mack also revealed that all the ladies know about each other. “Yeah, I don’t lie,” he said. “And it’s amazing – women get it, man. Don’t you ever forget they’re 13 years smarter than we are. Don’t you ever forget it.” Jones was previous married three times. He also added that his daughters have set a new regulations for him: only women ranging between 28 to 42.
Jones said he speaks 26 different languages
“I’m writing Mandarin, writing Arabic, writing Katakana in Japan. I’ve been traveling all my life, and I guarantee I travel more than any motherfucker on this planet.” When asked can he have conversations in the languages he simply began saying things in various languages.
Quincy also shared details on why Michael Jackson was scared of Prince
It all started at James Brown show in Los Angeles, both Michael Jackson and Prince were called on stage by the late great James Brown. “It was a superstar face-off that has often been seen as a triumph for Michael Jackson, and a rare humiliation for Prince.” said Jones.
Jones also provided details on what happened after the show, “Oh yeah, he spoke to him. He waited in the limousine to try and run over him and La Toya and his mother.” When questioned on how he knew Prince was trying to run over Michael he responded “He knew. Michael knows, shit. He was there. He said that was his intention.”
Frank Sinatra tried to set him up with Marilyn Monroe
“Frank was always trying to hook me up with Marilyn Monroe, but Marilyn Monroe had a chest that looked like pears, man,” he said. When asked to give more details, Jones changed the topic. “Let’s not talk about it.Come on, man. We killed it.”
Quincy Jones on why he never drives
Jones was never able to drive a car because a traumatic incident that happened to him while he was 14 and playing in a band. He gives details on an occasion when five people, including him were on the way to play at a rodeo in Yakima. “A little raggedy-ass car. Two up front and three in the back. I’m in the center. Trailways bus hit us. Everybody in the car died except for me. Reached up and pulled my friend, and his head fell off. That’s fucked-up for 14. It was very traumatic.”
A couple years after he tried to get driving lessons but he couldn’t do it. He received a full refund saying that the teacher told him, “I don’t need another maniac out there.”
Quincy Jones Disses Taylor Swift’s songwriting
During the interview Jones was asked did he like Taylor Swift and he went on to say that “We need more songs, man. Fucking songs, not hooks.” When told that some people consider her the great songwriter of our age, Jones laughed and responded with, “Whatever crumbles your cookie.”
Malcolm X used to be Quincy Jones’ plug
When Jones was 18 he was offered a gig to play the trumpet with the band leader Lionel Hampton. During his tour with the bands he was able to meet Malcolm X or Malcolm Little before his conversion to Islam. “Every time we’d go to Detroit, at the Majestic hotel, standing in front, with his Italian shit on and amber glasses: Malcolm X. Detroit Red. That’s where we bought our dope. It was before he went to prison.”
