MusiqInTheMagiq, the sixth project by Atlantic Records recording artist, Musiq, is sophisticated and laid-back. While the album does not give listeners a different aspect of his style of production and writing, it is a remarkably well-done  neo-soul expression. Whether it’s the throwback to yesteryear of “Lovecontract,” the R&B slickness of “Backtowhere” or its opener, “Anything,” which has found its way to radio, despite not having been released as a single, fans of Musiq should find this to be an agreeable effort from the singer.
Over the twelve cuts, MusiqInTheMagiq’s main theme is enduring and  everlasting love which is apropos to its predecessors. Other than “Single” and “Yes,” it does feel however that he is leaving behind his tuneful melodies for a more carefree and varied approach. This is especially noticeable on the album’s final number, “Likethesun,” an experimentation in spacey, new age percussion that contrasts from the other songs found here.
MusiqInTheMagiq will probably not be remembered as well as Soulstar or Juslisen but should not be tossed aside either.
