Mýa’s ‘T.K.O.‘ Album Out Now…

Gone are the days of good music from the 90s with artists we all loved. Except they aren’t! Your favorite soft-voiced angel songstress, Mýa, released a new album on Friday, April 20th – and it is everything you have been missing. The album, titled, T.K.O. (The Knock Out), holds some eye-catching album art… to say the least.

Now, I know, you might be thinking, “What does Mýa have to offer my ears? She hasn’t released an album in like two years?” To which our response would be, in the words of Remy Ma, “Are you dumb???” Especially since she was nominated for a Grammy during that two-year gap! This time, Mýa is bringing twelve beautifully-styled songs that will manifest themselves into three themed albums.

With twenty years in the music business, this album is not small task. Mýa has dealt with and triumphed over career doubts from her friends, family, industry ‘gatekeepers’, the cost of making the music we all love, waiting on approvals to sample songs, plus, some struggles that we probably don’t even know about. One of those can only be characterized as the projection of the ever-popular “angry black woman” persona onto her and her career. But Mýa is an unstoppable force. This woman didn’t let the outside world’s misconception of her confidence halt her from making a way – her way.

Mýa created her own independent label, Planet 9, in 2008. And, with that label, she was able to create, Smoove Jones–correction: the Grammy-nominated Smoove Jones. Now, in 2018, one day before her twenty-year music anniversary of April 21, 1998, we get to hear the songbird’s eighth studio project, T.K.O.

Let’s face it, between her label, Planet 9, and a leading role on UMC.tv’s 5th Ward, and the music, Mýa is a very busy woman. Here’s to hoping that Mýa stays in the entertainment spotlight like she deserves. Lastly, here’s to getting more songs like her current single “Damage.”

T.K.O. (The Knock Out) Tracklist:
