Did you know that over 94 million people in the United States say they’ve tried marijuana at least one time?

Marijuana continues to grow in popularity as even prestigious institutions like the medical industry and some governments have approved it.

Some think that kratom is a promising up and comer that could replace weed. But is that really true, or is it all hype?

Read our quick summary to learn everything you need to know about the kratom vs weed debate.

What is Kratom?

Like weed, kratom is a green leaf. Kratom is made from a certain evergreen tree in Southeast Asia.

Locals there have brewed it into tea and taken it in other ways to enjoy its effects. It is a stimulant that binds to your mu-opioid receptors.

Kratom vs Weed

So how is kratom like weed? One of the main reasons that some say that kratom could replace weed is because it causes pain relief and relaxation. Sound familiar?

On the other hand, how is kratom different than weed? It can cause loss of appetite instead of increased appetite. It can improve mood and increase your energy instead of making you want to sit back and do nothing.

Some negative side effects include nausea, constipation, a constant need to urinate, and even being sensitive to sunburn. Nausea and constipation occur most frequently.

According to WebMD, the FDA “has cracked down on companies that sell kratom as a treatment for withdrawal from opioids and other conditions. They also warn that some kratom products may be tainted with harmful bacteria like salmonella.”

Additionally, according to the DEA, kratom is much more likely to be addictive than weed. As with other addictive substances, if you’re not careful, you can end up desperate to get more, compromising your values and future in pursuit of your addiction.

On the other hand, many legal drugs can also be addictive if misused. Some people are more likely to become addicted to one drug while others may be more likely to become addicted to another.

Some say that kratom could someday work as an alternative painkiller to help those who are susceptible to opioids or other addictions. For those who are susceptible to opioids, but not to kratom, kratom could be a safe way for them to treat their pain and improve their quality of life.

Understanding the Difference Between Kratom and Weed

So what is the difference between kratom and weed? At the end of the day, the only way to fully understand the difference is to try it for yourself.

The Kratom Connection sources their kratom from Indonesia. They provide it both in capsule and powder form.

Kratom is still quite new to the market, so we don’t fully understand all of its effects. As time goes on, we may find it is a miracle drug, or just one more stimulant among many.
