While the #BussItChallenge, in support of Erica Banks’ “Buss It” is beginning to die down after several good weeks, a new challenge has begun to emerge on social media. The Silhouette Challenge once again puts women on the forefront, this time leaving things up to imagination. Here’s what we know so far about the #silhouettechallenge and a look at some of the best entries so far.
A silhouette is the outline of a person and their shape in a dim light. As pictured about the red light helps highlight the body of the person in the challenge, while nothing else can be seen. Some body outlines are better than others depending on the light.
The Silhouette Challenge starts off with participants calmly preparing while “Put Your Head on My Shoulder” by Paul Anka plays. The song is actually from 1963, but it serves as the perfect intro song for the challenge. Once that first beat drops at the word, “shoulder”, the video turns to a red (and sometimes blue) light backdrop with the participant swaying seductively to “Streets”, the 2019 hidden gem from Doja Cat, produced by Blaq Tuxedo. Usually just a few seconds long, the videos are only a tease, compared to the #Bussitchallenge but if a few more celebrities and influencers take a shot at the challenge it will definitely take off by Valentine’s Day.
Doja Cat has since released a visual for the “Streets” song, featuring elements of the Silouhette Challenge.
The challenge began trending this week when Chloe Bailey unveiled a special performance for fans on social media after she reached 1 million followers on her personal instagram. The performance wasn’t quite a #silhouettechallenge entry, but it showed the potential of the challenge if the right people participate. Chloe’s dance performance was performed to “F*** You All The Time” by Jeremih.
