The new year isn’t even a full month in, but we’re already in the middle of a huge Tik Tok dance challenge. The Buss It Challenge is inspired by the made for twerking anthem from Dallas, Texas bred rapper Erica Banks, 22, a relative newcomer, but a certified hit nonetheless. The #BussitChallenge has already been tried by several celebrities and influencers alike, helping propel the song to the top of the charts, months after it was originally released.
Banks is signed to the record label that originally signed fellow Texas rapper, Megan Thee Stallion. She is also signed in a joint venture with Warner Bros. Records.
“Buss It” samples the Nelly classic, “Hot in Herre.” The song is produced by Sgt. J and appears on Erica’s self-titled mixtape, which was released in June of 2020.
The creation of the Buss It Challenge is credited to Erika Davila. In her video, which now has over 2 million views, Erika says, “PLEASE TAG ME. And if this has been done I’m sorry, i just fux wit the song #transition #fyp #newtrend #newdance.” That call to action sparked the challenge and those who have done it start by dancing along to the beginning of the song in regular clothes. After the song says, “I think my butt gettin’ big,” participants drop down low, which signals a transition to a different cut of them dolled up and twerking to Erica Banks’ “Buss It.”
