Pleasure P left Pretty Ricky for a number of reasons but it’s not stopping him from doing tonight’s Verzuz battle. While there have been some serious missteps and accusations, he is getting his musical flowers tonight with Ray J, Bobby V, and Sammie. But what made Pleasure P leave Pretty Ricky in the first place? Here’s a quick breakdown:

The Success, the Fall Out, the Reunion

Pretty Ricky made their debut in 2004 with their hit single, Grind With Me, and followed it up with Your Body from their first album, Bluestars. After that success, they came back with, On the Hotline from their sophomore album, Late Night Special. They were regulars on 106 & Park and topped the Billboard 200 charts. Pleasure P ended up leaving the group as they were making their third album. However, they reunited in 2015. They were on Love and Hip Hop – Miami and then performed their hits on the Millenium Tour with B2K, Mario, Ying Yang Twins, and more.

Why Pleasure P Left Pretty Ricky

Despite their breakout success as a group, there were some issues within the group mentally and financially. Due to label and financial issues with Bluestars Entertainment, the company Pretty Ricky signed to in a deal with Atlantic Records, Pleasure P left Pretty Ricky and focus on his solo career, according to Hip Hop DX. During their time on Love and Hip Hop Miami on VH1, the group realized that part of their fallout had to do with Pleasure P chasing money and the rest of the group chasing sex. He gained success on his own with songs like I Did You Wrong and Boyfriend #2.

Sexual Assault Allegations

Pleasure P’s solo success took a dark turn when sexual assault allegations became public. Members of Pretty Ricky, Spectular and Diamond Blue (Baby Blue), claimed that the sealed documents of the case exist.

According to Vibe, “Pleasure P inappropriately touched younger family members [with] various documents surfacing from an alleged settlement connected to the case. Ashley or Laura Goldstein, who claimed she was the daughter of a lawyer who once represented Pleasure P made the scandalous claims.”

In the article, he claims his innocence and makes it clear he doesn’t have a relationship with Pretty Ricky. He believes part of the reasons why they made those claims have to do with his level of success versus their music flop.

According to BET, Pleasure P said in an interview with The Breakfast Club, “I was successful. I was #1 on the charts; I just got nominated for a Grammy and I don’t know when you leave a situation– name one story of a person that left and became successful and they didn’t get teared down,” he stated. Charlamagne asked whether he thought Pretty Ricky is the cause behind the rumor and Cooper said, “Absolutely.”

“I never really talk about it, but I forgave them. I don’t trust them; it’s just business,” he said. He does feel that they were jealous of him. He does admit that cruel allegations caused him to lose a lot. “I lose Atlantic record deal. I had to downsize in life. They’re not bad guys. I would’ve hated me, too,” he replied as he shrugged it off.

Are Pretty Ricky Still In Contact?

It looks like Pretty Ricky went their separate ways after the tour and Love and Hip Hop, since their last Instagram post was on October 12, 2019. Diamond Blue is in jail for a massive PPP loan scam and it looks like Slick’em doesn’t have much of a social media presence. Spectacular is doing his social media marketing business, He is also promoting a 2023 tour that Pretty Ricky is set to be on with Nelly, Ne-Yo and Ja Rule in New Zealand and Australia but no one else in the group is promoting it. Unless other Pretty Ricky members make a surprise appearance on tonight’s Verzuz, it looks like their relationship – personal and business is over.
