On Tuesday (Feb 21), the family of martyred activist Malcolm X and Ben Crump (Civil rights attorney) are meeting in Manhattan to declare their commitment to sue various government agencies and the NYPD in association with the civil rights leader’s assassination.

In front of a news conference, Crump released a statement saying the lawsuit will suggest the agencies and the NYPD possessed “factual and exculpatory evidence that they fraudulently concealed from the family of Malcolm X and the men wrongly convicted of crimes surrounding the assassination of Malcolm X.”

The proclamation of motive to sue arrives precisely 58 years since Malik el-Shabazz was horrifically gunned down in front of his family while delivering a speech in Washington Heights at the Audubon Ballroom.

It pursues decades of controversy and talks over a potential linkage between New York and federal government agencies (including the CIA, FBI and the NYPD) and Malcolm‘s assassination.

The Truth Will Come To The Light

Back in 2021, the two men were vindicated after being found guilty for assassinating Malcolm X.

Since his assassination, the late activist has become a household name and a pillar in pop culture. On The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Will Smith donned Malcolm X tee shirts, hung up the civil rights leader’s poster on his room wall, and bragged to Uncle Phil how we read The Autobiography of Malcom X three times.

Adding to the culture, Spike Lee released the biographical drama motion picture “Malcolm X” in 1992. Aside directing and co-writing the classic film, Lee also starred as Shorty (Malcolm Little’s friend and co-defendant) alongside Denzel Washington who portrayed Malcolm X. Throughout the movie, Malcolm was consistently threatened and harassed via phone calls. Also, the civil rights leader had bugs (recording devices) planted in his home and hotel rooms. Malcolm also wrote his wife (Betty) while on his pilgrimage to Makkah and informed her that “two white guys” were constantly following him around.

Do you feel the FBI, CIA and NYPD had anything to do with the assassination of Malcolm X? Tell us below!
