David Guetta’s latest album, Nothing But the Beat is a composition of exhilarating house beats with the infusion of a popular hip hop and r&b artists. Don’t let the title fool you into thinking that this is just an album of strictly instrumental dance beats. From beginning to end, all tracks consist of some of the most well known voices mixed in with the ever popular auto-tuned sound.
Guetta did a phenomenal job of choosing just the right beats to coincide well with each featured artist.  On the track “Without You”, R&B superstar Usher sings a ballad like melody to a somewhat softer house beat. Throughout the song, there are points where many layers of the musical instruments are dropped where the listeners focus is directed to Usher’s crooning.
Surprisingly, rapper Nicki Minaj does more singing than rapping on the track “Turn Me On”, we don’t hear a rap from her until much later in the song. The versatility of her styles would lead one to believe that there is an additional artist on this track. With her vocals sounding very much like Britney Spears or Lady Gaga, the average listener would not recognize her voice. Jennifer Hudson sounds as powerful as ever on “Night of Your Life”, against a classic house beat reminiscent of the 1990’s when house music was at its peak, crossing over into mainstream.
Nothing But The Beat is a great album for house music fans or those looking for a good dance party mix. The main focus on the album, as noted in the title is the beat, the production is great. What listeners may find most intriguing is the variety of featured artists stepping of their comfort zones and into another music genre. Other artists featured on the album are Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg and Jessie Jae.
