Showtime At The Apollo Set To Return To Fox, Steve Harvey Hosting
The Apollo Theater and the Fox network have announced that Showtime At The Apollo is coming back to Fox as a weekly series! Back in December the network and the world famous theater partnered once again for a television special celebrating the 30th anniversary of Showtime At The Apollo. The two hour special was so successful that Fox has picked up Showtime At The Apollo as a one hour weekly series with Steve Harvey hosting as he did back in December.
“We all had such a blast on the two specials that aired earlier this season, that we thought it really deserved being a weekly event,” said Harvey. “But our mission is a little different this time around. As well as putting on a great show, we are going to find the next great comic and the next great music star!!! That’s what the Apollo is all about, great talent!!! My roots are on that stage and I can’t wait to be there every week searching for great talent. Who said you can’t go back home again?”
The Apollo’s legendary Amateur Night, the long running, live talent competition is now in its 82nd year. Amateur Night provides a platform in front of one of the toughest audiences in the world. Each week on the series, big names in music and comedy will make special guest performances, much like the classic episodes.
The Apollo Theater launched the career of many iconic artists including James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Lauryn Hill, Michael Jackson, The Jackson 5, D’Angelo, and numerous others.
The excitement is building and we are anticipating an amazing series filled with energetic performers each week. Get ready for Showtime At The Apollo!!!
The series launches during the 2017-2018 season.
