Oscar nominated director and writer Ava DuVernay has done it again with her sharp wit and ability to bring stories to life. This time she has teamed up with Netflix to tell the story of the ‘Central Park Jogger case,’ nearly 30 years later, in a series called, When They See Us.
The Central Park Jogger case surrounds the story of a group of five teenage boys; four African-American and one Hispanic who were falsely accused of a crime that they didn’t commit; Korey, Antron, Raymond, Kevin and Yusef all have a story to tell. Based on the 2012 documentary ‘Central Park Five’, it dramatizes the night of the rape of a 28-year old Caucasian female.
DuVernay co-wrote and directed the series, which was wrapped up last fall in NYC. When They See Us gives the five men a chance for their voice to be heard. The series will premiere on May 31st.
