When researching CBD products that are right for you, there are a number of factors to consider. There’s the delivery system, flavor, quality, reputable company, and more to think about. All of those factors are important, but not as important as purchasing the right kind of CBD for your needs.

CBD from hemp oil can be made into three different strains: isolate, broad-spectrum, and full-spectrum CBD oil. Understanding these three types of strains could be the key to determining the right type of CBD oil for you and how you can use it to heal what ails you. Use this guide to help you properly distinguish the differences.

Isolate CBD

This is the most basic form of CBD. It’s CBD in its purest form with no other additives.

The hemp plant is made up of several different components including hemp, CBD, cannabinoids, vitamins, fatty acids, antioxidants, and other nutrients. There’s also a small portion of the plant containing THC, the psychoactive component in marijuana responsible for creating a high.

Isolate CBD ignores all that extra stuff and just takes out the CBD. There are no extra cannabinoids or nutrients that can add to the healthy aspect of using CBD oil. Most importantly, though, there’s absolutely no THC. This is a big selling point for some individuals who are still a little unsure of what a tiny trace of THC in CBD can do to a person (even though no CBD products will make you high).

Isolate CBD is typically made into a powder or crystal form. Isolate is also tasteless and doesn’t have a strong smell. Most say it has no smell at all.

There are many different extraction methods for isolate CBD, but CO2 extraction is the cleanest method. It’s the best for fully separating the CBD from all other components without adding any toxins or hemp components that don’t need to be in there.

CBD isolate has many uses, including helping to boost appetite, improving memory, potentially reducing the perception of pain, improving mood, and dropping levels of inflammation. It can be purchased in edible form or mixed into drinks or food.

CBD isolate is a popular choice for those who cannot or won’t consume THC in any form, but it’s not nearly as effective as broad-spectrum or full-spectrum CBD. The extra components missing from isolate CBD somewhat inhibit its effectiveness, but it can still be used for positive results.

Broad-Spectrum CBD

Broad-spectrum CBD is the most popular form of CBD, and for good reason. Like isolate CBD, it does not contain any THC. However, the rest of the healthy components of the hemp plant are included in the broad-spectrum CBD mixture.

This strain of CBD can be extracted in multiple ways from the hemp plant, but again, the best method is through CO2 extraction. Using high pressure and temperatures, chemists are able to pull out CBD and separate the other components. They might pull out everything except the THC to create broad-spectrum products or they might separate each component and add those that they want to include into the broad-spectrum CBD, discarding the rest.

Broad-spectrum CBD has many different delivery methods. It can come in forms like oil tinctures, vape juice, creams, gummies, edible treats, drinks, capsules, soft gels, and more. Typically, the bioavailability, or the amount of CBD that enters your blood stream, is higher in broad-spectrum CBD mixtures than it is in isolate CBD products.

Broad-spectrum CBD is most commonly used to treat anxiety, sleep, pain, inflammation, symptoms of serious health conditions, appetite loss, inflammatory bowel disease, neuroprotection, and more. It’s most notably an antioxidant, which can kill free radicals that might otherwise attack cells and tissues and potentially lead to cancer later on.

This type of CBD does not have many side effects, nor will it show up on a drug test.

If you’re trying to decide which CBD to start with, broad-spectrum CBD is a good one to start with. It’s potent, highly effective, contains essential nutrients and vitamins you need, and contains no THC.

Full-Spectrum CBD

Full-spectrum CBD has many of the same benefits and much of the same chemical makeup of broad-spectrum CBD with one notable exception: It contains trace amounts of THC.

To be sold legally online throughout the United State, full-spectrum CBD cannot contain more than 0.3 percent THC. So, if you’re purchasing full-spectrum CBD, make sure the THC content does not go over the legal limit. If you’re buying it online, you shouldn’t run into this problem, but if you’re buying it in a dispensary, the story might be different.

Full-spectrum CBD also uses CO2 extraction, and the THC should be measured and labeled on the bottle, so you know that you’re not exceeding the legal limit. It can also come in multiple delivery methods like vape juice, drinks, capsules, soft gels, edible treats, gummies, creams, oil tinctures, and more.

It’s also used to treat the same symptoms as broad-spectrum CBD and depending on how you react to CBD with a small THC content, it can be more effective in some cases. It’s not as good for treating anxiety, but it might improve your sleep better than broad-spectrum CBD will.

Full-spectrum CBD shouldn’t show up on a drug test if it contains the legal trace amount mentioned above; however, it’s not unheard of for full-spectrum CBD users to get a positive drug test. Depending on how sensitive the drug test strip is or the transparency of the CBD company from which you bought your full-spectrum products, you’re not guaranteed to be in the clear on a drug test.

It’s a highly effective tool for combatting many health conditions, however, and you might find that it’s the right type of CBD for you.

Which Type of CBD Is Best for You?

So what’s the best CBD oil for you? It’s difficult to say which type of CBD you would prefer without knowing a little more about your needs or your tolerance towards CBD products. Therefore, it’s best to explore various types of CBD and their delivery systems to see which has the best effect on you.

If you’re looking for a good place to start, try broad-spectrum CBD. This strain is the most popular in the CBD industry because it contains the best parts of the hemp plant while leaving out the THC.

Give it a try, and if it’s not for you, test out another type of CBD that could work better.
