Jimmy Kimmel has been slammed for “white male privilege” after reportedly “upstaging” Quinta Brunson‘s Emmy acceptance speech.
During the Emmy Awards 2022, the American talk show host was dragged onto the stage by actor Will Arnett in a skit before announcing the nominees in the category for best writing in a comedy series. However, Kimmel continued to play dead after Quinta Brunson was named the winner and went up on stage to accept her award for best writing in comedy series. Brunson looked down smiling at Kimmel after appearing on the stage to see if he would move. “Jimmy, wake up. I won,” she jokingly exclaimed.
Kimmel’s sturdy presence forced Brunson to continue with her speech despite the comic lying by her feet.
Fans observing the Emmy Awards 2022 across the world did seem to find this acting by the American television host and comedian funny. Lots of them referred to Kimmel’s acting as “Highly disrespectful.” “Jimmy Kimmel should have left the stage during Quinta’s speech. Highly disrespectful.” one said.
“@jimmykimmel, you need to let @quintabrunson host your show whenever she damn well wants. That wasn’t committing to the joke. That was disrespectful and showing some serious male white privilege,” another Twitter user, Jrdpharmd said.
