It’s safe to say… Mary can definitely be a jill of all trades!

Earlier this week, legendary artist and actress Mary J. Blige took to her Instagram account to make the grand announcement that she would be debuting her all-new children’s book, Mary Can! Following Blige’s exciting reveal, fans and friends flooded in with congratulatory comments to help the ‘Queen of Hip-Hop Soul’ celebrate her joyous accomplishment.

Scheduled to hit the literary shelves on March 28, 2023, Mary Can! tells the story of a young, ambitious girl who has aspirations of becoming a big-time singer. As this invigorating fable takes the reader on a fun, unforgettable adventure through the eyes of the fictitious adolescent, little Mary sets out to prove that all dreams are capable of forming into one’s reality. No matter how big or small!

When speaking of the project, Blige told PEOPLE:

“I want kids to know that there are no limits to what they can accomplish. My wish is for my nieces and nephews to feel they can achieve anything they imagine. Growing up, I was constantly told that my dreams were too big, too bold, and too far out of reach. I think we need to reinforce that nothing is impossible.”

Mary Can! will be published through HarperKids, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers. The award-winning Ashleigh Corrin is responsible for the illustrations.

Congratulations to Mary J. Blige on her latest endeavor!

As you may know, it’s been a busy year for the 51-year-old. In February, she unveiled her fourteenth studio album, Good Morning Gorgeous, which accompanied a tour of the same name with R&B phenomenons Ella Mai and Queen Naija.

Most of the time, people say “no” or “you can’t” because they dream too small.

Young Mary has been told that there are many things she can’t do. Like stay up past bedtime, or be an astronaut or become president. But what she really wants is to sing, and she isn’t about to let anyone tell her she can’t do it!

A powerful motivating tale about a confident and ambitious girl who doesn’t feed into negativity, this debut children’s book from legendary artist Mary J. Blige proves that anyone can make their dreams come true by believing in themselves. It’s a great conversation starter for overcoming discouragement from others.
