Why is Bad Bunny’s ex-girlfriend suing him for $40 million?!

According to reports, the Latin artist has been slapped with a lawsuit by his ex-girlfriend, Carliz De La Cruz Hernández. The former lover is said to be coming after Bunny for utilizing a voice recording of her in two of his songs.

Allegedly, Bunny used a recording of De La Cruz saying, “Bad Bunny, baby,” in a breathy accent in both his 2016 single, “Pa Ti,” and his 2022 smash, “Dos Mil 16.”

The combined number of streams for the two tracks on Spotify and YouTube is almost 1 billion.

De La Cruz’s “distinguishable voice” was allegedly used without her consent on the songs, as well as for advertisements, at concerts, and on television, radio, social media, and musical platforms, according to the complaint, which was submitted in March to a Puerto Rican court.

Why Is Bad Bunny’s Ex-Girlfriend Suing Him for $40 Million? Here’s the Scoop

The lawsuit states: “Thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about ‘Bad Bunny, baby.’ This has caused, and currently causes, De La Cruz to feel worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious.”

Reportedly, the lawsuit also names Rimas Entertainment, Bad Bunny’s record handle, and manager Noah Kamil Assad Byrne.

According to the complaint, De La Cruz’s voice was recorded in 2015 at Bad Bunny’s request in a pal’s bathroom.

The lawsuit further asserts that De La Cruz was in charge of managing contracts, handling invoices, and arranging events for Bunny during the early stages of their relationship and their time spent together at the University of Puerto Rico.

De La Cruz claims in the filing that a Bad Bunny rep called her in May 2022 and offered her $2,000 in exchange for the rights to her “Bad Bunny, baby” vocal.

De La Cruz was said to have declined, but she’s alleging that Rimas Entertainment then made an offer to purchase the recording, asserting it would be included in the global music star’s upcoming album, Un Verano Sin Ti, which in February took home a Grammy for best music album for urban audiences.
