Keyshia Cole explains why, despite repeatedly accusing Daniel Gibson (her first husband) of infidelity, she remained wed to him for such a long time.
The R&B diva recently made her acting debut as herself in the Lifetime television movie “Keyshia Cole: This Is My Story.”
In 2011, Cole wed the former NBA star. They have a kid, DJ, who is now 13 years old. The two are content in the Lifetime biopic. early on in their union, before Gibson allegedly began two-timing her.
According to the 41-year-old, their child is what kept her in the marriage for such a long time.
“That was a lot of the reason why I didn’t get a divorce through all the cheating. Because it was like, I just want to do it for my kid, you know what I’m saying? Like, ‘Can he have two parents in the same home?’” she expressed in an interview regarding finally leaving her husband in 2017.
Keyshia Cole Addresses Allowing Husband’s Infidelity
After spending time in foster care and waiting until she was an adult to discover her biological father, Cole, whose deceased mother Frankie battled addiction, learned relationship instability early. She yearned for her mother and father to be together as a child. But she ultimately understood that wishing the same for her kid was insufficient to keep her own marriage together.
Cole says, “At some point, you just have to choose you, and choose to be healthy.” Cole claims that she is currently concentrating on establishing a reliable co-parenting arrangement with Gibson and “just making lemonade” out of her predicament.
“Regardless if my kids don’t have both parents I’m trying to create that safe space of co-parenting. That’s really what it’s all about.”
In reference to love catching her again, the singer laughingly said: “I don’t even know. It’s rough out here. You can’t get these people to tell you the truth about anything and I’m a truth seeker. A couple of people have told me my husband is in Dubai and I need to go overseas. I said, ‘Well bring him on!’ I just gotta get over there.”
