Even if The Nun 2 will top the box office on its breakout weekend, its performance is still below that of the original.

The film, which debuted on September 8, is the ninth installment since The Conjuring (2013) to be released in the Conjuring Universe. The young nun Sister Irene (Taissa Farmiga), her erstwhile friend Frenchie (Jonas Bloquet), and the demon Valak, whose favored shape is that of a scary nun (Bonnie Aarons), will all make appearances in this direct sequel to 2018’s The Nun.

TheWrap reports that The Nun 2 is presently expected to earn $32 million in its first weekend of release. This is sufficient to propel the film to the No. 1 position this weekend, moving The Equalizer 3, which took the top place last weekend, to No. 2.

It still falls short of the first The Nun, which had a $58.3 million opening and went on to earn a total of $365.5 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing film in the Conjuring Universe.

While The Nun 2 falls short of its renowned predecessor, it nonetheless represents a positive development for the box office prospects of the entire Conjuring Universe.

In fact, it has gained the distinction of having the best franchise opening since The Nun.

Actors are not endorsing any projects related to the SAG-AFTRA strike as they continue to demand fair pay.

The Nun 2 would have made even more money if the union’s demands had been satisfied and the cast, which also includes Anna Popplewell and Storm Reid in addition to Farmiga, Aarons, and Bloquet, had been present to promote the movie.

Despite The Nun 2‘s average Rotten Tomatoes score of 45%, this opening weekend may be the beginning of the Conjuring Universe’s successful future.
