With a focus on empowerment and representation, these stars are not only making a name for themselves but also championing diversity in the fashion world.

Here is a list of some famous celebrities who have become huge stars in their fields and in the fashion world, creating black owned clothing brands.

Luxury Clothing Brands Owned by Black Celebrities

  • NIKE X JORDAN (JORDAN BRAND)

The Air Jordan shoe could be regarded as the biggest Black-owned shoe brand. It was first produced for Michael Jordan when he was drafted into the NBA (National Basketball Association) in 1984, and was released to the public in 1985.

Michael Jordan initially signed a deal with Nike which would allow him to earn five percent off any shoe purchase with the Jordan name.

Although the brand is originally owned by Nike, Michael Jordan owns a share in the brand which has earned him a whopping $1.3 Billion dollars.

  • KANYE WEST (YEEZY)

Yeezy is a fashion partnership brand between American rapper and entrepreneur, Kanye West and the German fashion and sportswear brand, Adidas.

The first Yeezy model (Boost 750) was released in February 2015, In 2020 Forbes described Yeezy’s rise as “one of the greatest retail sales of the century”. 

The brand provides sneakers, shirts, jackets, track suits, slides and much more.

Adidas and Kanye parted ways after making millions of dollars together. This happened as a result of some antisemitic comments made by West.

The 46-year-old rapper directed some slanderous remarks towards the Jewish community, which Adidas couldn’t tolerate, leading to the severing of ties between them.

Fenty was founded and launched by Rihanna in May 2019 under the Luxury LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton). This fashion deal made Rihanna the first black person and also the first black woman to head a luxury brand for the LVMH group.

All the sales and production activities were suspended in February 2021. However, it quickly bounced back, and her makeup brand, Fenty Beauty are a must-have for every dark-skinned lady. 

Rihanna’s net worth, according to Forbes, is estimated to be $1.4 billion with Fenty Beauty being attributed to pitching as a major fraction of her worth.

In 2016, Ivy Park was introduced as an athletic fashion clothing line, owned, managed, and operated by American singer-songwriter Beyoncé, under her management company, Parkwood Entertainment.

On March 31, 2016, Elle magazine published a cover story announcing the cofounding of it by Beyonce and Sir Phillip Green. In which she expressed her desire to “push the boundaries of athletic wears and to support and inspire women who understand that beauty is more than your physical appearance”

“Where is your park” was released by Beyonce on the same day as a promotional video in which she provided viewers with a glance into her workout routine and also included previews of the upcoming apparel collection.

Ivy symbolizes her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, while Park represents Parkwood Park in Houston, where Beyoncé used to visit for exercise and personal empowerment, she provided further details in the video.

  • 50 CENT (G-UNIT CLOTHING COMPANY)

G-unit clothing company was established in 2003 by rapper, 50 cent. 50 cent teamed up with Marc Ecko, the founder of Ecko UnLtd, to create a line of clothing and accessories. Even with the shared ownership, 50 Cent retains complete ownership of the brand.

Since its initial launch, the brand has generated $100 million in retail sales.
