Abbott Elementary has become a hit show due to its relatable storytelling on real-world issues. While the comedy aired episodes, news just broke out that the series was renewed for a fifth season. While fans wait patiently for the next season to drop, here are five other shows like Abbott Elementary that will warm your heart.

Shows Like Abbott Elementary That You’ll Love

1. “Poppa’s House”

The multi-cam sitcom features Damon Wayans. Sr. as Poppa, a renowned radio host needs some help from a woman’s perspective which is where Ivy (Essence Atkins) comes in. Living next door is his son Junior (Damon Wayans Jr.) who aspires to be a filmmaker at the cost of quitting his job given to him by his father-in-law. The series watches a father and son mature their relationship by healing from past trauma.

2. “The Ms. Pat Show”

The series unfolds with the main character Ms. Pat, a former drug dealer and convicted felon adjusting to life in the suburbs with her family. Unlike other sitcoms, “The Ms. Pat Show” has covered topics such as non-binary pronouns, abortion, Black hair, school shootings, drug addiction, racism, and child abuse in a way that is respectful but also humorous.

3. The Upshaws

The comedy stars Mike Epps as Bennie Upshaw, a mechanic who messes up on more than just cars. With his boyish charm, Bennie tries to step up for his family which includes his wife Regina (Kim Fields), his two daughters Aaliyah and Maya (Khalo Spraggins, Journey Christine), his eldest son Bernard (Jermelle Simon), and his other son Kelvin (Diamond Lyons) which he had with another woman named Tasha (Gabrielle Dennis). When he’s not dealing with his family, Bennie gets into petty squabbles with his sister-in-law Lucretia (Wanda Sykes). Regardless, the Upshaws always try to elevate themselves together.

4. The Neighborhood

The sitcom has Cedric the Entertainer as Calvin Butler, the ruler of his neighborhood where he lives with his wife Tina(Tichina Arnold). Calvin’s two sons, Malcolm(Sheaun McKinney) and Marty(Marcel Spears) live next door. The Butlers build a unique friendship with their new neighbor Dave Johnson(Max Greenfield) and his wife Gemma(Beth Behrs) and they end up fitting into the neighborhood more than anybody expected.

5. Act Your Age

The series follows Bernaderre (Kym Whitley), Angela (Yvette Nicole Brown), and Keisha (Tisha Campbell) as three women in their 50s who move in together. Along the way, they work on finding love, supporting each other, and managing their adult children in the process.

While we wait for more from “Abbott Elementary,” these shows should keep your heart filled in the meantime.
