Having cornrows means different care, not “no maintenance.” Men with cornrows can learn how to keep their cornrows neat, which can make their hair grow longer, making them last a few extra weeks, while saving them hours in redoing them

Although cornrows only last a few weeks, men can prolong them with proper maintenance. The big secret is moisture, protection at night, and scalp care.

Better hair growth, fewer breakages, and longer-looking braids are all results of taking care of your scalp and hair when wearing cornrows.

In this article, we will be teaching the guys how to make cornrows last by answering all your hair care questions. Here is all the information you need to make your cornrows last longer for men:

Tips on Making Your Cornrows Last Longer for Men

The following are the main strategies to extend the life of your cornrows:

  1. Regularly use a moisturizer. Apply water-based mists and use mild creams or oils to lock in moisture.
  2. Wearing a satin or silk scarf or using a silk pillowcase will help protect your hair at night.
  3. Applying oil or moisturizer instead of using your nails will help you avoid scratching.
  4. Every week, give your scalp a gentle wash, being careful not to uproot your braids.
  5. Remove cornrows every one to three weeks to avoid leaving them in for too long.
  6. Drink plenty of water since it nourishes your hair from the inside out.

How to Take Care of Cornrows for Guys

Even while cornrows are a fashionable and low-maintenance protective hairdo, they still need to be properly cared for in order to survive.

They can easily grow dry, frizzy, or break if left unattended. Prior to making them:

  1. Make sure your hair is clean.
  2. To get rid of grime and buildup, wash your hair with a hydrating shampoo.
  3. To maintain the strength and softness of your hair, use a thorough conditioner afterward.
  4. To make your hair easier to manage during braiding, apply a leave-in conditioner and gently detangle it with a wide-tooth comb.

How to Keep Cornrows from Frizzing

The main cause of cornrows’ rapid aging is frizz. Reducing friction and retaining moisture is crucial. The tips listed below will help keep your cornrows from frizzing:

  1. Make use of a basic do-it-yourself moisturizing spray that consists of water, natural oil (such as coconut, olive, or jojoba), and a few drops of essential oil (such as tea tree or peppermint).
  2. To keep your hair moisturized, lightly mist it once or twice a day. To lock in the moisture after spraying, dab a tiny bit of oil straight onto your scalp.
  3. Avoid often touching or scratching your scalp. Use a moisturizer or oil on your nails rather than on your nails if you experience itching.

Frizz and inflammation of the scalp can result from scratching.

How to Take Care of Cornrows at Night

Maintenance at night has a significant impact on the lifespan of your cornrows. Unprotected cornrows are more prone to dry out and get frizzy at night. So here are the tips to follow:

  1. Apply a little bit of leave-in conditioner or oil to your scalp before bed. Then, to lessen friction as you sleep, put on a durag or scarf made of satin or silk.
  2. Invest in a satin or silk pillowcase if you dislike wearing anything on your head. These materials assist in retaining moisture and are kind to your braids.
  3. Don’t wear your hair in a ponytail or bun when you sleep. Your roots will be stressed by tight styles at night, which may cause thinning or breakage.

How Long to Keep Cornrows in for Hair to Grow

A lot of men are curious about how long to maintain their cornrows in order to promote hair growth.

  1. Get rid of product buildup. You should ideally remove your cornrows every seven to ten days. Hair development is supported by a healthy scalp, which is what a clean scalp is. Hair breakage, itching, and clogged follicles might result from wearing your braids longer than is advised.
  2. Avoid Dry Scalp. Give your hair a good wash, and hydrate it if it feels dry, tight, or itchy. Additionally, cease using essential oils like peppermint or tea tree oil if you feel stinging or uncomfortable. These potent oils have the potential to irritate pores.
  3. Avoid carrying braids for too long. The fundamental rule is to keep Cornrows for 1-3 weeks. Pay attention to your scalp at all times.

Cornrows are excellent for keeping your hair long and protected, but you shouldn’t wear them for extended periods without taking a break.
