Remember August Alsina, the up-and-coming R&B artist? If you don’t, let me refresh your memory. Just a few years ago, Alsina was a hot name in the music industry, one of the biggest R&B male shining stars. Then he was involved in a scandalous affair with a Hollywood bigwig, and then his music career seemed to all but slow down.  Now people are asking, Where is August Alsina?

The Rise of August Alsina

August Alsina emerged on the scene in 2012 with his mixtape, The Product, followed up with a Def Jam deal.  He released an outstanding debut album featuring the hit single, “I Luv This Sh*t,” which included the remix with Trey Songz and Chris Brown. Over the years he has made music with the likes of Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Nikki Minaj (“No Love”} and others.

August Alsina and Jada Pickett-Smith

Actress Jada Pickett-Smith, who is married to Oscar-winning actor Will Smith, admitted a few years ago that she and the young musician had an affair, but at the time, she didn’t call it that; she called it something else: an entanglement.

The pair met in 2015 through her son Jaden Smith, and Alsina revealed their involvement in 2020. He talked about their affair with Angela Yee on YouTube.

“I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her,” he said. “I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it — so much so to the point that I can die right now and be okay with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.”

Pickett discussed their relationships further on the show “Red Table Talk.”

“Four and a half years ago … I started a friendship with August and we became really, really good friends,” she said.

“And it all started with him just needing some help, me wanting to help his health, his mental state.”

“We found all those different resources to help pull him through … you and I were going through a very difficult time,” she said, later clarifying that the pair “decided that we were going to separate for a period of time.”

Despite reports to the contrary, Will Smith did not give his wife or Alsina permission to be together.  But he may have not needed to as the two were separated at the time.

Alsina referenced the relationship with Jada in a song aptly titled, “Entanglements,” which came out during the height of quarantine in 2020.

August Alsina vs Tory Lanez

This was a very brief issue, but while the two were on tour together, August Alsina claimed that Tory Lanez assaulted him.  He even posted pics of himself after the assault and detailed exactly what happened.  Tory Lanez was removed from the tour within days, which was a bad look because this was just before his Megan Thee Stallion trial.

August Alsina Pops Out With A Man

Since the affair was exposed, we haven’t seen much of Alsina, but he has been making music.  Still the music comes out few and far in between.  The scandals however, continue. It started with a few random social media posts about his friend… and then he declared the man was his person.

More recently Alsina opened up to Nick Cannon on his show “Counsel Culture,” where he discusses falling in love with a man but how he still refuses to label himself as gay, straight, or bisexual.

“So it’s like, when people want you to define yourself as whether you’re gay, straight, bisexual, or whatever it is you was just talking about, love is much more complex than that and has much more depth. So for me, I’m just the kind of person that, because love is a language, I’m fluent in love when it speaks to me.”

August Alsina is asked about loving another man, and he speaks about opening his heart, saying that love is much more complex.

It seems as if Alsina hasn’t let his painful experiences throughout his life affect his music; in fact, he has used his experiences to create great music.

New August Alsina Music

The last August Alsina album was titled Myself, released independently in March 2023.  All things considered that’s not even a long time ago. That came 3 years after his The Product III album, also an independent release with his EMPIRE deal.  That may be a good sign that we can expect a new album by 2026.

These days Alsina is keeping his private life private.  We’ll take it.
