In the bustling and futuristic city of Lagos, Nigeria, a thrilling coming-of-age narrative unfolds in the animated series, Iwaju. The sci-fi series, “Iwájú”, is produced by Disney Animation Studios and the pan-African entertainment company, Kugali.

Iwaju synopsis
The story is set against the backdrop of a technologically advanced Lagos, where tradition and innovation collide. It revolves around Tola, voiced by the talented Simisola Gbadamosi, a young girl hailing from the affluent island, and her ingenious best friend, Kole, brought to life by Siji Soetan.

Tola, our protagonist, represents the privileged class from the affluent island, providing a unique perspective on the societal dynamics within this futuristic setting. Meanwhile, Kole, her tech-savvy companion, brings a self-taught expertise that becomes instrumental in unraveling the secrets and dangers lurking in the shadows.

Together, they embark on a journey that unveils the mysteries and perils concealed within their distinct worlds.

Kugali’s team of filmmakers, led by director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola, alongside production designer Hamid Ibrahim and cultural consultant Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku. Oscar-winning director Peter Ramsey (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”) serves as the executive producer.

Christina Chen, from Disney Animation, takes the helm as the producer of “Iwájú,” contributing to the series’ potential for success. Adeola and Halima Hudson collaborate on the screenplay, ensuring a seamless blend of narrative depth and visual spectacle.

The voice cast includes prominent talents such as Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, and Weruche Opia, adding another layer of excellence to this ambitious project. With Toluwalakin Olowofoyeku serving as a cultural consultant, the series ensures a respectful and accurate representation of Nigerian traditions and values.

The highly anticipated animated series, “Iwájú,” is set to make its debut with all episodes available starting from February 23, 2024.
