Debut Gabrielle Union Book, ‘We’re Going To Need More Wine‘ Out Now

Gabrielle Union is a familiar face that has been spreading #BlackGirlMagic all through magazines, movies and television screens. Union has been excellent at telling the narratives of others on screen and off. Now the talented actress will be telling a new story: her own.  The Gabrielle Union book, titled We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated and True, is a collection of riveting essays that are transparent and relatable. Released in October 2017, We’re Going to Need More Wine explores topics such as race, gender, beauty, sexuality, and Union’s marriage to NBA player Dwayne Wade.

Union is usually very selective with information concerning her private life. However, Union approaches each narrative with a sense of fearlessness. She is opening herself to the world so that we all may catch a glimpse into the life of Gabrielle Union. Her brutal honesty and vulnerability is impressive, especially when the ever- confident Union alludes to self-doubt at one time in her life.

Although the text is a narrative about Union’s life, the stories can be easily translated to fit situations that’s we all encounter.  Topics such as divorce, competition and never ending beauty standards are relatable to the everyday individual. This is what makes Union’s work such a dynamic read. Throughout the book, Union encourages the reader to be empathetic, and to understand that there is a certain powerful aspect behind truth, laughter and support.

During an interview with People, Union stated “Throughout my life, I’ve often wondered aloud ‘How the hell did I end up here? Why me?’ ” the 44-year-old actress said. “Not sure I’ve ever found all the answers to those questions, but in this book I share my journey… the good, the bad, and the WTF. You will definitely need more wine for this one.”

Gabrielle Union’s We’re Going to Need More Wine: Stories That Are Funny, Complicated and True was released via Dey Street Books.

One thing is certain, after readings Unions book, we are all going to want a refill.
