Gabrielle Union Returns To TV As ‘Syd Burnett’ For A Bad Boys Spin-off Series

Although one door is gearing to close for Gabrielle Union, the Being Mary Jane actress isn’t worried because a new door has already begun to open. As we’ve just recently learned, Variety has confirmed that Being Mary Jane will end it’s run in 2018 with a two-hour finale movie. However, though ‘Mary Jane Paul’ will say her final goodbyes, Union will be seen in NBC’s forthcoming Bad Boys spin-off series.

The Bad Boys spin-off series will see the 45-year-old reprising her role as ‘Syd Burnett’, the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) who was romantically involved with Marcus’ partner, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). Burnett was introduced in the 2003 Bad Boys 2 sequel film, and she was last seen in Miami taking a drug cartel down. In her LAPD detective position, she has the opportunity to pursue her career in all of LA and move forward with her life. Of course, things aren’t always as simple as we want them to be, though. Along the way, Burnett faces some trouble, as her new partner Nancy McKenna begins to see that Burnett’s lifestyle may actually be the cover-up for an inner secret. We can’t wait to see what happens.

It has also been reported that the Union is going to take part as an executive producer in the series. Joining her as executive producers, we can expect Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who are known for their work on NBC’s The Blacklist. Also stepping in as an executive producer is Jerry Bruckheimer who produced the original Bad Boys films. He will work alongside Jonathan Littman, KristieAnne Reed, Jeff Gaspin, Jeff Morrone, and Doug Belgrad. There is hasn’t been any word on whether or not Will Smith or Martin Lawrence will make appearances; however, we’ll just have to wait and see.

While there is no set release date, it is confirmed that the series will air on NBC.

Will you be tuning in?
