Meet the cast of Issa Rae’s Rap Sh!t HBO Max debuting next month! Set to hit the streaming platform on July 21st, Rap Sh!t follows two estranged best friends, Shawna and Mia, and their adventure to start a music duo. \

Rap Sh!t, which derived from the original script for Rae’s Insecure, is loosely based on and co-executive produced by the City Girls. It should be dope AF, Period!

Aida Osman

 Rap Sh!t HBO

  Aida Osman is a writer and comedian. She is best known for hosting the Crooked Media culture and politics podcast, Keep It. She has also written on HBO’s Betty and Netflix’s Big Mouth. She’s credited as a writer on Rap Sh!t on HBO Max and will play Shawna, per Variety. Follow her on Instagram.

KaMillion

Rap Sh!t HBO

KaMillion is a well-known rapper and songwriter, who will play Mia on Rap Sh!t. She’s most known, though, for her time on Love and Hip Hop: Miami. She has written for artists such as Rihanna and Pussy Cat Dolls. She also worked with Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, Dirty Money, Rick Ross, and Trey Songz. She even has a Grammy under her belt for her work as a songwriter on the H.E.R’s self-titled album. Jonica “Blu” Booth

Rap Sh!t HBO

Jonica “Blu” Booth will play Chastity, a “sex work manager” who calls herself the Duke of Miami, per Deadline. Booth is a Bad Girls Club alum, who got her nickname from her blu afro and big personality, She is well-known in the St. Louis party scene and earned herself a reputation as a player and home wrecker.  Follow her on Instagram.

Devon Terrell

Rap Sh!t HBO Max

Devon Terrell will play Cliff, Shawna’s long-distance boyfriend in law school. Terrell played a college-age Barack Obama in the 2016 Netflix film, Barry. He also starred in The Professor (2018) and Ophelia (2018). Follow him on Instagram.

Jaboukie Young-White

Rap Sh!t HBO Max

Jaboukie Young-White plays Boom, Shawna’s (Osman) former schoolmate and producer. He now produces for an up-and-coming rapper who recently blew up, Reina Reign. Young-White is a comedian and actor featured in The Daily Show and Dating & New York. Follow her on Instagram.

Daniel Augustin

Rap Sh!t

Daniel Augustin is an actor, artist, and alchemist. He currently plays Ian on How I Met Your Father and will play Maurice on Rap Sh!t. Maurice is Shawna’s (Osman) friend and co-worker. He is very dapper, with great taste in clothes, but maybe not so much in women. Augustin was also on Grey’s Anatomy and David Makes Man. Follow him on Instagram.

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut

Rap Sh!t

Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut will play Fatima, a law classmate and close friend of Shawna’s boyfriend, Cliff. Chestnut has acted on Broadway in The Crucible and A Doll’s House, Part 2. She’s currently on FreeForm’s Cruel Summer. Follow her on Instagram.

Amandla Jahava

Rap Sh!t

Amandla Jahava is an actor and producer. She’s known for starring in DMZ (2022), Sis (2020), and Desert Age: A Rock and Roll Scene History (2016). Jahava will play Jill, Shawna’s (Osman) friend from college. She currently works at Spotify In New York and is big on networking new young artists, but mostly focuses on those that get traction, according to Deadline. Follow her on Instagram.

RJ Cyler

Rap Sh!t on HBO MaxRJ Cyler (Ronald Cyler II) will play Lamont, an aspiring music producer with a sharp ear for talent. He is also the loving but sometimes absentminded young father to Melissa, so by association, he has a complicated relationship with Mia, according to Variety. Cyler has starred in “Power Rangers,” the Brad Pitt film “War Machine,“ “The Harder They Fall,” and “Black Lightning.” Follow him on Instagram.

Brittney Jefferson

Brittney Jefferson is an actress and producer. She worked as a freelance Associate Producer and Producer’s Assistant after she graduated from Alabama A & M University. Jefferson will portray Aleesia, a high-maintenance but good friend of Mia’s from high school. Jefferson starred in The New Republic (2011), The Real in LA (2011), and Bald (2021). Follow her on Instagram.

Dominique Perry

Dominique Perry is an actress and dancer from Houston, TX. Perry will play Nelly, another one of Mia’s old high school friends. Nelly is also a single mom but spends a lot of her time going to parties, according to The Grio. IMBD states that Perry got her start by being featured in Snoop Dogg feat. T-Pain’s “Boom.” She was chosen to model for rapper TI’s clothing line, “AKOO”, was featured in Vibe Magazine, and made it as a Jet Magazine’s iconic “Beauty of the Week.”She booked her first big on-screen role as “Shonda” in “Get Hard” starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.
