Mike Tyson chooses WWE over AEW?! Though Tyson has done business with both WWE and AEW, the former heavyweight boxing champion said if given the chance he’d go with Vince McMahon‘s platform.
On the latest Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson episode, Tyson and Sebastian Joseph-Day (NFL Super Bowl champion) sat down with legendary WWE heavyweight champion The Undertaker. When Joseph-Day queried about what it all entails to become a WWE special guest, the boxing legend mentioned that even though AEW pays more money he’d prefer to appear on WWE.
“You know Tony Khan and those guys? Yeah, these guys want to put me on the show and stuff before. But I don’t care if they got more money. If Vince [McMahon] put me on the show, I’d rather go [to WWE] even though [AEW] pay more money,” said Tyson.
The Undertaker co-signed Tyson’s statement by following up with, “I don’t blame you there. It’s going to get much more play. WWE is going to do it right. Yeah.”
In 2012, Mike Tyson was inducted as a celebrity inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame. In 2010, he guest-hosted a Raw episode. At WrestleMania XIV in 1998, the boxing icon notoriously served as the outside hatchet man for the Shawn Michaels vs. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin match.
Since 2020, the podcast host has made several AEW appearances as well. November 2022 was Tyson’s most recent appearance as he stood in as a commentary guest for the All-Atlantic Title battle between Katsuyori Shibata and Orange Cassidy.
Evidently, if returning to the wrestling ring anytime soon, Mike Tyson gives a thumbs down to AEW and a thumbs up to WWE. Regardless of All Elite Wrestling lining his pockets with more Benjamins, the money just isn’t enough for “Iron” Mike to roll with AEW over McMahon’s longstanding WWE.
