Senior citizens are presently facing a housing turmoil and Tyler Perry has swooped in to battle the crisis by donating $2.75 million to assure they maintain possession of their homes.
According to reports, the Humanitarian Award winner (which he was honored with at the 2021 Academy Awards) got in touch with Mayor Andrew Dickens to chat about giving help to elderly residents on fixed incomes who potentially may lose their homes as a result of spiking real estate taxes.
To hinder the dislocation, the Madea Goes to Jail filmmaker is assisting 300 indigent senior citizens by paying their property taxes.
The monies will cover county, city, and school taxes, rounding up to approx $2.75 million. Perry has donated $750K already for the initial year, which will take care of back taxes, and vowed to shell out $500K over the next forty-eight months. In addition, over the next 20 years, Perry will cover any tax spike for 100 fixed-income senior citizens.
Perry’s generous donation will be dispensed by Invest Atlanta Partnership, which is Atlanta’s economic expansion authority nonprofit division.
According to reports, the office of Andre Dickens put out a statement thanking Perry for his philanthropic efforts: “Atlanta’s growth and prosperity should not come at the expense of our legacy residents—many of whom have been priced out of their homes in previous years. Tyler Perry has been engaged in our ongoing conversations around legacy resident retention, and he told me he wanted to do something to support these efforts. Thanks to his generosity, more Atlantans will be able to remain in the communities they built.”
