Lately, Drake has been in a specular mood and recently he opened up about the time he auditioned for a role on Degrassi.
The hip-hop sensation shared a voice memo on Instagram as part of the promotion for his ‘It Was All a Blur’ tour with 21 Savage, which jumped off on Wednesday (July 5) at the United Center in Chicago. In the voice memo, Drizzy discusses how he rose to fame.
In the message, a reflective Drake acknowledged using cannabis before to his audition for the Canadian television program Degrassi: The Next Generation, which helped establish his career.
“Someone asked me the other night what my biggest fear is, and I’ve never really had a good answer for it, but my answer was that all this is for nothing. Kind of the idea that, like, one day, life ends, and it just all goes black,” the OVO boss spoke at the clip’s beginning.
“I go back to this day when I was like 13 or 14. I had an audition for a TV show that ultimately shaped my life, and before my audition, I went to this kid’s house. And I, out of, I guess, a desire to be accepted, I would succumb to peer pressure, and I got high with these kids right before my audition.”
Drake Says He Was Stoned For Degrassi Audition
On the television program in question, Degrassi: The Next Generation, a teenage Drake portrayed Jimmy Brooks, a promising sports player who suffered physical disabilities after being shot by a classmate.
Drizzy first worried that the part would hurt his music career, but it really marked the beginning of his ascent to prominence and fame on a global scale.
“I kind of wonder, like, if something bad happened that day or, you know, maybe I’m still high, maybe I’m in some coma. And this is just, like, me playing out my ideal life,” the “Up All Night” spitter furthered.
“And yeah, that concept has stuck with me for a lot of years. I mean, it feels like reality; it feels tangible. But I definitely wonder sometimes.”
