A Shutter Island movie review isn’t complete without acknowledging how this psychological thriller walks the line of predictability while keeping the audience’s interest.
Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island follows a U.S. Marshall played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who arrives at an insane asylum to investigate the disappearance of a patient. Full of twists and turns, the plot is sharp with hooking elements such as human experimentation and the unorthodox use of sleeping medication that make it quite convincing.
The plot is well-conceived, dropping clues along the way that drive it to a suspenseful finish. Martin Scorsese (Goodfellas & Gangs of New York) directs the thriller to a tee, bringing forth subtle details with each clue presented while making sure the story is not revealed until the climax. Self-proclaimed sleuths can pick up clues along the way to compare their conclusion with the movie’s end, while film lovers can admire the movie in general and enjoy the ride. Either way, there’s something in Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island for everyone to enjoy.
Produced by Paramount Pictures, Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island satisfies from start to finish. And for this Shutter Island movie review, it’s definitely worth the two hours you’ll spend watching it.
