Kristinia DeBarge is a beautiful, intelligent and captivating songstress out of Pasadena, California, who knew she wanted to sing at the tender age of three. Makes sense coming from the legendary DeBarge family tree. However, Kristinia initially hid her talents from her father, former Soul singer, James DeBarge. Through the years Kristinia fell in love with Pop and R&B sensations like Aaliyah, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys. At the age of twelve Kristinia and James entered a recording studio together. There, she revealed her big dreams to become a singer/songwriting superstar. Proving to her father that she was not only talented but dedicated to making her dream a reality, they worked until 4 a.m. that next morning, and the rest as they say was history.
The following year Kristinia appeared on American Juniors, the younger version of the already successful American Idol. Kristinia finished the competition in the Top 20, not a bad start for the future superstar.
Following her success on American Juniors, Kristinia met with a man responsible for the careers of some of the most influential artists of the past twenty years, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. She’d spend the next four years under the wing of the singer/songwriting legend, perfecting her voice and writing skills. “I didn’t feel pressure, I felt honored to be working with Babyface,” Kristinia offered humbly. At age nineteen Kristinia inked a recording deal with Sodapop/Island Def Jam.
In July 2009 Kristinia released her debut album Exposed, which entered the Billboard charts at number 23 the Top 200. “Goodbye,” her first single topped Billboard’s Pop Charts and sold over two million copies. Following the success of the album Kristinia opened for Britney Spears on her world tour “The Circus Starring: Britney Spears.” A few short years later Kristinia released her sophomore album, Young & Restless and independently released the single, “Cry Wolf.” The video would make it’s debut on Vevo and garnered over 94,000 views in less than 24 hours.
Kristinia’s passion for the arts doesn’t end with music, she also loves acting. Making her debut in the 2012 film “Christmas In Compton,” which stars Keith David, Omar Gooding, Eric Roberts and Sheryl Lee Ralph. She followed that up with a lead role in Nick Cannon’s directorial debut, School Dance in 2014. She starred as Anastacia in the film.
Earlier this year Kristinia released her single “Hol’ On Boy” off her upcoming project on her interactive social media. This single gives a look into an older and more sophisticated version of the Pop and R&B songstress. Kristinia has been very secretive on the details regarding her highly anticipated project but ensures it will be something to remember. As her fans wait, they can always interact with the superstar via social media. Daily, she replies to well wishes from her admirers and from time to time feeds her audience with new music.
