Danielle Brooks To Make Her Broadway Debut In The Color Purple

Danielle Brooks, or to Orange Is The New Black Fans, Taystee, has made it to Broadway!!! The actress, born and bred in South Carolina, but transplanted to New York City to attend the Julliard School, will be playing the role of Sofia in the upcoming production of The Color Purple in the Broadway musical revival. 

 

The musical will also feature Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avery and a breakout star out of London, Cynthia Erivo.  Directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle, The Color Purple will begin preview performances on Monday, November 9th at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th street) and will officially open on Thursday, December 10.   The Color Purple is produced by Scott Sanders, Roy Furman, Oprah Winfrey, David Babani, and Tom Siracusa.

Orange is the New Black will return for its third season on June 12th, 2015.

Tickets for The Color Purple will go on sale exclusively to members of Audience Rewards beginning on Monday, June 22 at 10am EST. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, July 2.
