Michelle Obama Drops Single, “This Is For My Girls” With Celebrity Friends For A Great Cause
Michelle Obama is using her last year in the White House to continue progress on some of the movements she’s been working on for the last few years. Today she released an anthem for young girls around the world aptly titled, “This Is For My Girls”. The song features Missy Elliott, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michele, Zendaya, Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monáe, Jadagrace and Chloe & Halle.
The single’s proceeds will be donated to the Peace Corps Let Girls Learn Fund, part of Michelle Obama’s #62MillionGirls campaign to benefit the 62 million young women around the world without access to education. All the ladies on the record volunteered their services.
“This Is For My Girls” was written by superstar songwriter Diane Warren, nominated for an Academy Award this year for co-writing the stunning Lady Gaga song “Til It Happens To You,” from the 2015 documentary film The Hunting Ground.
“It’s kind of like ‘We Are the World’ meets ‘Lady Marmalade’ with these strong voices and strong women,” Warren told Billboard of “This Is For My Girls.”
