Unique Talent, JMSN Offers Insight Into His Latest LP

Following right on the heels of last year’s live collection, …North Hollywood, JMSN [pronounced Jameson], née Christian Berishaj, returns with his fifth solo studio outing, Whatever Makes U Happy. Ever since the unveiling of the Eastpointe, Michigan, based singer-songwriter-record producer-multi-instrumentalist-music engineer’s 2012 debut, Priscilla, along with high profile collaborations from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Game, Mac Miller, J. Cole, Tyga, Ab-Soul and Kaytranada, to name some, JMSN has emerged as one of the music industry’s most sought-after performers.

Whatever Makes U Happy was released on April 28th via JSMN’s own self-founded label, White Room Records.  The label is also home to Alcordo and Pearl.  Each of JSMN’s albusm have been released independently but his stock continued to soar.

We caught up with the singer to talk about the latest album and much more.  Check out the interview below…

Parlé Mag:  Reflecting, how did you first discover your musical talent?
JMSN:  I’ve never discovered that. I’ve just discovered my desire and love for it. That has always been there. So I’m trying to work on getting better to be good at it.

Parlé Mag:  Who have been your greatest inspirations musically and why?
JMSN:  Prince, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins. Just what I was drawn to. The emotion, the rawness.

Parlé Mag: That said, how do you describe the style of music that you create and perform?
JMSN:  I just describe it as JMSN. It is its own world.

Parlé Mag:  Hoping into this brand new single/video, “Where Do U Go”. Tell me about this particular composition; how did it come to fruition?
JMSN:  Just had an idea to do a creeper video from the lyrics, and just shot it guerrilla style.

Parlé Mag: “Where Do U Go” comes courtesy of your brand new LP, Whatever Makes U Happy,  although pretty self-explanatory, still tell me, conceptually, what that title represents both to and for you?
JMSN:  It’s about doing whatever makes you happy. If you’re gonna be spending your time doing something, it should ultimately be what makes you happy because it’s gonna be hard regardless, so might as well be something you like.

Parlé Mag: How does Whatever Makes U Happy either differ and/or compare to previous JMSN efforts?
JMSN:  It’s very different. It’s a new evolution of my songwriting, singing, production and composition. I consider this to be my first album.

Parlé Mag: Do you have any other outside/additional aspirations, maybe even completely away from music?
JMSN:  Directing, acting. Always wanted to try it at some point, when I feel like I’ve done all I want to do with music.

JSMNParlé Mag: If you could collaborate with any one artist, living or dead, who would it be and why?
JMSN:  Prince, because he’s the greatest.

Parlé Mag: If you could play any venue in the world, which one would you choose and why?
JMSN:  Madison Square Garden. Then I’d feel like I’m farther along. It just feels like a staple venue in a career.

Parlé Mag: One track of yours that you think defines you and why?
JMSN:  “Drinkin’,” because it feels right.

Parlé Mag: You are about to embark on this 23-date Drinkin’ With JMSN North American tour. For those who have yet to witness you performing live, what all would you say can be expected from this upcoming trek?
JMSN:  Me playing my music and loving it!

Parlé Mag: Any “closing” thought(s) for our readers?
JMSN:  Do it and keep doing it. Whatever you wanna do. You’ll get whatever you want if you do that.
