Toni Braxton Shares New Music: “Deadwood”

Veteran R&B legend, Toni Braxton has released her first new solo single in 5 years, a passionate track titled, “Deadwood”.  The guitar heavy track allows Toni to effortlessly deliver a smooth song for listeners who have missed her wonderful voice.

In 2014, Braxton teamed up with Babyface to release the duet album, Love, Marriage & Divorce.  The album would fittingly win the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album the following year.  The Toni Braxton biopic hit Lifetime last year, Toni Braxton: Unbreak My Heart, revealed a whole new side of the singer to fans.  And they’ve been clamoring for new music ever since.

“Deadwood” is Toni Braxton’s first major single since “Make My Heart”, the final single from her album, Pulse, back in 2010.  The seven-time Grammy Award winner also announced that “Deadwood” would serve as the lead single from her forthcoming album, Sex & Cigarettes.

Listen to “Deadwood” Below:

Sex & Cigarettes is more about me feeling sexy, independent, and expressing my feelings. I think for a long time I felt I had to make certain records, but now I want to just be free! I don’t want to be censored, I just want to focus on being an artist and creating good quality music that people can relate to,” Braxton revealed of the new album in an Essence Magazine exclusive.

“Deadwood” is the first single of a new partnership between Toni Braxton and Def Jam Recordings.  The song was co-written by Braxton, Fred Ball, Royce Doherty and Kwame Ogoo. Fred Ball produced the single.  The music video for the song has already been shot and will be revealed soon.  The visual was directed by veteran Bille Woodruff.

Braxton who has remained pretty low key in the last year is ready for a resurgence in the coming months.  While she continues to take care of her two sons, Denim and Denzel, and deals with her own battle with Lupus as well as her youngest son’s autism, Toni is ready to make another step in the balance of  career and family with her new album and a new movie.

Braxton is set to star in a new Lifetime movie in early 2018 titled, Faith Under Fire.  The film, executive produced by TD Jakes and is based on the book “Prepared for a Purpose: An Inspiring True Story of Faith, Courage and Compassion in Crisis” by Tuff and Alex Tresniowski.

Braxton stars as Antoinette Tuff, a struggling single mom from Georgia who heroically averted a tragedy, saving hundreds of lives when she convinced a deranged gunman who stormed an elementary school to surrender.
