Jerrod Carmichael’s new comedy special premieres on HBO on Friday April 1st at 9pm, just in time for April Fools Day. One of the topics in the special is no laughing matter however. Jerrod Carmichael comes out as gay in the Rothaniel special, officially sharing his story about hiding his truth.
Carmichael has always offered an introspective brand of comedy. In past specials he has even made jokes about coming out.
The Rothaniel special was taped in February at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York City.
Watch the teaser for the special below, where he talks about being honest with everything in life moving forward. That offers a bit of a teaser to the news that Jerrod Carmichael comes out as gay.
