Michael Blackson’s Brittney Griner Joke Receives Major Backlash

Michael Blackson’s Brittney Griner joke didn’t sit too well with the people on the internet.

Just recently, the 49-year-old actor-comedian sent out a tweet about the Phoenix Mercury player that most took to be highly insensitive.

“When Brittany Griner get out I want to be the first one to give her some deek,” Blackson wrote.

If you didn’t know, earlier this month, Griner was sentenced to nine years in a Russian prison after being detained at an airport in Lobnya, Moscow, Oblast back in February. The 31-year-old was said to have been illegally carrying vaporizer cartridges, containing hash oil, in her suitcase, which led to a tumultuous court battle that has made worldwide headlines.

Following Blackson’s post, due to the WNBA star’s current legal situation, he received loads of backlash, which he has since responded to.

In an Instagram story, Blackson shared a screenshot of a conversation he and Griner carried on in the DMs back in 2017, letting people know that Houston, Texas native is actually a friend of his.

“Ya stop being sensitive. BG is my homie and I know she’s about to get out by the grace of God,” the Ghanaian entertainer said. “That’s why I’m making a joke. Ya need to stfu Modasuckas.”

He also added to his initial tweet by saying:

“I don’t care how soft ya want comedians to be. I’m not changing for no one, I make fun of any and everyone. I know this can never happen to me but I need ya to lighten up Modasuckas.”

We can confirm that, last week, Blackson posted on Instagram in support of Brittney Griner.

However, that’s still not enough for her fans and everyone else who were heartbroken by her unfair situation with the justice system.
