Ashanti finally addresses Irv Gotti, why she was not a part of the BET Murder Inc documentary and much more in a recent interview with HOT 97 and Angie Martinez!

When the BET Murder Inc documentary was occupying our timelines for the better part of the summer of 2022, the biggest question from most viewers was where is Ashanti?

Many wanted to know why she was not a part of the documentary, and furthermore, why she was not addressing the remarks made about being in a relationship with a then married Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., aka Irv Gotti! Many wanted the singer/songwriter to issue some sort of statement either denying or affirming the claims, but the documentary and hype came and went, and Ashanti never did.

In a recent interview at the infamous HOT 97 in New York, NY, Ashanti finally addresses the reason why she remained silent at the time and why she decided not to be a part of the BET Murder Inc documentary.

Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning consists of hosts Laura Stylez, Peter Rosenberg and Ebro. Ebro starts off the interview by joking with Ashanti about how much it seems like she is always on vacation, then jumps right into the situation that went down with Irv Gotti over the summer. Ebro asked, aside from the Drink Champs interview with Irv Gotti, initially, why was Ashanti not a part of the BET Murder Inc documentary?

To sum up Ashanti’s answer, she felt that Irv’s energy was too negative for her to be a part of the documentary when it was filmed. She thought it was unfortunate that at the time, Irv Gotti had not let his feelings go about their situation businesswise.

She felt that Murder Inc as a record label deserved to have everyone that was a part of it be a part of the documentary to show and prove the great things that they did, but Irv wasn’t in the space for her to be included. She also felt the Drink Champs interview tarnished the vibe that the documentary was supposed to provide.

Ashanti said she felt Irv was trying to get ratings as to why he took the turn to focus on her, and it backfired. Ashanti also said she felt grateful that most people took her side and felt Irv was out of line. She also noted that she talked to Ja Rule, and she did tell him he should have spoken up sooner, but they’re good!

The caption for the full interview goes as follows: “Ashanti is on Ebro in the Morning today! She opens up about multiple topics such as Irv Gotti, her friendship with Ja Rule, not being included in the Murder Inc documentary, her dating life, favorite songs to perform, plans to travel to Ghana, having a mom as a manager throughout her career, and more! Her children’s book ‘My Name Is A Story’ is available now. She is also featured on the Diddy remix of ‘Gotta Move On’ which also includes Yung Miami.” Watch the full interview below!

At 3 AM ET legendary hip-hop interviewer and media personality Angie Martinez aired an interview with her and Ashanti from her IRL (In Real Life) podcast on YouTube. The interview was announced via a tweet including a small clip from the inteview by Twitter handle The RnBHub.

When it comes to Irv Gotti and Ashanti’s decision not to be a part of the BET Murder Inc documentary, she doubles down on her answers from the HOT 97 interview. She does go into detail a little deeper with Ang, but the jest is the same. Neither interview provided us with the answer we really wanted, was Ashanti and Irv ever really an item?

Ashanti says that Irv has his version and basically says he thought there was more to it than it was, but doesn’t really say NO, I did not sleep with Irv Gotti, or YES, I did! This is as close as we’re going to get!

Ashanti did give us the behind the scenes on how Irv iced her out once he found out her and Nelly were dating. She recalls him telling people in the industry not to work with her and aggressively telling her to go get a record deal from Dirty ENT! She also clarifies what was going on when she wrote the song “Happy”, which was very different from the version Irv Gotti gave us on the BET Murder Inc documentary.
