Via social media, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence declared that the fourth film in the ‘Bad Boys‘ franchise is gearing up to hit the big screens soon. “Bad Boys 4” will see the return of the cranky yet loyal Detective Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and the playboy, trigger-happy Detective Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). On Smith‘s Instagram page, the pair used a video to announce the news. Brandishing a 4K video camcorder, Smith got into his vehicle and rode over to Lawrence’s residence. After the Philly native knocked on the door, Lawrence opened it and hugged Smith; this led to both actors confirming a fourth installment is on the way.
“IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME!” read the caption on the “Bad Boys 4” proclamation video. At the beginning of the footage, the “Emancipation” star played “Shake Ya Tailfeather‘ (off the “Bad Boys II” soundtrack) as a way to tease that the fourth film was in the works. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith last reprised their characters in “Bad Boys For Life” (2020) as the super-tight, battleful brothers in blue. 1995 is when the original “Bad Boys” was released, while “Bad Boys II” hit the box office eight years later in 2003.
Accordant to Sony Pictures, “Bad Boys 4” is presently in pre-production. Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, directors of “Bad Boys For Life,” will return to make the fourth installment. Set to write the script is Chris Bremner, says reports. “Bad Boys” (1995) took Will Smith and Martin Lawrence from sitcom stars to action heroes. Lawrence initially made his bones as a celebrated stand-up comic prior to starring in his self-titled sitcom “Martin” on Fox. On the other hand, Smith was a Grammy award winning rapper before landing his on sitcom on NBC entitled “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
For one reason or another, after “Bad Boys II” was made it took 17 years for the third installment (“Bad Boys For Life“) to come out. The highest-grossing movie in the franchise to date, “Bad Boys For Life” raked in roughly $427 million at the box office globally. With the unparalleled chemistry between Martin Lawrence and Will Smith, fans are surely in for a thrilling rollercoaster ride when “Bad Boys 4” hits the big screen.
