Well, it looks like Twitter didn’t like Ariana DeBose’s rap, and this is what happened next. Following the ridicule she received after spitting on the mic at the British Academy Film Awards, Debose did a ‘Kanye shrug’ and merely deleted her account on the networking platform.

The West Side Story actress, who previously took home an Academy Award and a Bafta for her character portrayal, has set social media on fire after her extremely interesting rap performance at the awards on Sunday (Feb 19).

As she commemorated the ladies nominated this year for a Bafta (Viola Davis, Ana De Armas, Cate Blanchett, etc.), Debose remixed “Vogue” (1990) by Madonna by adding some Hip-Hop flavor to her stage act.

Her rap segment didn’t seem to hit home with various Royal Festival Hall audience members, as when the camera panned around many nominees appeared distraught and stupefied.

Naturally, the taped reactions led social media to lampoon the American actress for her Hip-Hop presentation.

It now appears that the mockery has hurtDeBose’s feelings, prompting her to deactivate her Twitter account.

At the moment, you can still catch the 32-year-old on Instagram.

Twitter Didn’t Like Ariana DeBose’s Rapping & This Is What Happened

One Twitter user shared about Debose’s Hip-Hop performance: “I fear I’m going to be quoting Ariana DeBose’s dreadful Baftas rap until my deathbed.”

Another tweeted: “I feel bad that it flopped.”

Other users blasted DeBose for citing Angela Bassett in her rap, as she said the Black Panther star “did the thing” in the midst of her rhymes.

Succeeding the scrutiny, Nick Bullen (Bafta producer) came out and defended DeBose for her controversial tribute.

“I think a lot of people don’t like change, and there’s a view that the Bafta [has] to be this slightly stiff, traditional British, middle-England messaging. But American awards shows have much more razzmatazz, much more showbiz, and perhaps a broader range of people being involved. We felt we’re not about revolution, we’re about evolution,” said Bullen.
