If you think web3 is merely a phase and will wither soon than you may want to rethink the matter. Def Jam Recordings surely believes in the decentralized world, as the groundbreaking record label has just made a deal with The Whales (a digital avatar NFT band). The aforesaid — which is an idiosyncratic crew of animated whales — have an album coming out soon as well, which will have melodic guidance from a variety of celebrated songwriters and producers.

In December 2021, Joshua Andriano and Ben Willis of entertainment platform WAGMI Beach created the concept of The Whales, according to reports. The tech studio partners pitched the NFT band to Ryan Rodriguez and DJ Mormile with the notion of the philharmonic avatars, feeling the Def Jam executives “got it.” Willis remarked: “We pitched the idea of a community-grown avatar group to DJ and [they] just got it. To be working with Def Jam on releasing this one-of-a-kind new music project is a dream come true.”

Question is – who are the voices behind The Whales? The NFT band‘s identities have yet to be disclosed, however, it’s said they are ‘household names’ in the music industry. The signing of the avatar music group accompanies the hip hop imprint collaborating with The Catalina Whale Mixer (a collection by WAGMI Beach featuring 5,555 NFT avatars on Solana‘s blockchain).

The staffers at WAGMI Beach feel that this integration of NFT artists will optimize the way record labels and musical acts engage with supporters, as it allows the people to be part of the outgrowth. Alec Lykken, co-found of WAGMI, said: “At the core of all the NFT and Web3 attention is a fundamental technology change that will alter how music and art is consumed by generations to come. This is our initial dive into what we believe to be an incredible new wave for artists and fans alike.”
