On Wednesday (Feb. 8), South Park kicked off their 26th season with an episode entitled “Cupid Ye” where they blasted Kanye West for his antisemitic comments and religious outbursts. In the season kickoff, Stan and Cartman grapple with envy over Tolkien and Kyle’s comradeship, particularly their celebrated series on TikTok. Stan is satisfied with merely pouting, however, Cartman elects to thrust a wedge (shaped like the Star of David) between the few Jewish and African-American students in the school.

In band class, Cartman says to Tolkien: “It’s awesome that someone like you could be ok with someone like him, given all the new information lately. You know, the stuff about how the Jews stole the Black’s racial identity? That the lost tribes of Judah were all Africans?” Cartman goes on: “You didn’t hear about this? Black people are actually the Jews and people like Kyle have taken that from them?South Park is referring to the latest religious movement called Black Hebrew Israelites, whose views have been championed by celebs such as Kanye West and Kyrie Irving. “Cupid Ye” displays how eventually the entire school spouts the notion that “Kyle runs Hollywood.”

During “Cupid Ye,” Cartman conducts interviews on TV sporting the precise attire Kanye West wore during his appearance on InfoWars (hosted by Alex Jones) where the producer praises Hitler and the Nazis. Also, Cartman converses with a wizardly fairy who is forever “busy praising our savior’s name in the music studio.” This makes Cartman doubtful and distrustful. “Ever since you changed your name and got all into Jesus, you got a little batsh*t crazy, Cupid Ye,” said Cartman. South Park certainly pulls no punches.

The jokes are consistent but not as scathing as the series can be. The best laughs come from the gang’s absolute bafflement and Kyle and Tolkien’s TikToks, a gag that will feel painfully relatable to anyone over the age of 17. Randy’s rant about ‘woke Hollywood’ will inevitably be taken out-of-context by the usual suspects, but it works well when you realize this is a grown man blaming a pre-teen for Avatar 2,” Kayleigh Donaldson of Consequence said of South Park‘s “Cupid Ye.”
